Dr. Fredrick Long joined the faculty of Asbury Theological Seminary in 2007, after having taught eight years at Bethel College, Ind. Prior to this, Long taught at Asbury Seminary as a Greek and Hebrew Teaching Fellow (1993-1995), for Trinity Evangelical Divinity School’s Graduate Extension in Milwaukee, Wis. (1996-1997), and at Marquette University as a graduate research and teaching assistant (1996-1998) and as a lecturer for the Marquette Adult Continuing Education Program (1997-1998).
Long's research and writings cover the areas of Biblical and Greco-Roman Literature, Greek studies, and Biblical Theology and include two books, Ancient Rhetoric and Paul’s Apology: The Compositional Unity of 2 Corinthians (SNTSMS, Cambridge, 2004) and Kairos: A Beginning Greek Grammar with Accompanying Workbook and Answer Key (Logos, 2005, 2008). In additional to having published journal articles, he has contributed essays to several works, including Rhetoric, Ethic, and Moral Persuasion in Biblical Discourse: Essays from the Heidelberg 2002 Conference (T & T Clark, 2005), Women, Ministry, and the Gospel (IVP, 2007), The New Interpreter’s Dictionary of the Bible (Abingdon, forthcoming), and Christian Origins and Classical Culture: Social and Literary Contexts for the New Testament (Brill, forthcoming). He was also acting Senior Editor of the journal, Reflections: A Publication of the Missionary Church Historical Society (2003-2007). Currently, he is finishing Greek translation work in the Psalmic literature of the Septuagint and in the book of Galatians, and has begun writing a socio-rhetorical commentary on Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians in the new Rhetoric of Religious Antiquity (RRA) commentary series to be published with Deo Publishers, Netherlands.
Fred and his wife, Shannon, have five children—Hannah, Nathanael, Gabrielle, Samuel, and David.
