Spotlight: Asbury Theological Seminary’s Board of Trustees – Mike Burkhart and Ricardo Gomez

This month we would like to spotlight two of our Board of Trustees: Mike Burkhart and Ricardo Gomez.

Mike Burkhart

Mike Burkhart is the co-founder and Executive Vice President of BRG Energy, Inc., a privately held independent oil and gas company located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Oklahoma and has more than 40 years’ experience in the oil industry.

Mr. Burkhart is the co-founder and president of The Mike and Susan Burkhart Foundation Inc.,  a 501 c (3) foundation that provides $175,000-$200,000 funding to various charities.  He and his wife Susan are members of Asbury United Methodist Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he serves on the Staff Parish Relations Committee.  He and Susan have adult sons and three grandchildren.

Ricardo Gomez

Rev. Dr. Ricardo Gómez and his wife, Beth, are full-time missionaries with Free Methodist World Missions since 2006. They first served in Santiago, Chile where they planted an urban church. In 2013 the family moved to Medellin, Colombia where Ricardo taught in the department of practical theology at the Seminario Bíblico de Colombia for five years. He also oversaw a project which produced a series of 21 Pastoral Formation manuals in Spanish that will be used throughout the denomination in Latin America. Ricardo is transitioning into the role of Area Director of the Free Methodist Church in Latin America effective April 1, 2019.

Ricardo holds a bachelor’s in theology (emphasis in pastoral studies) from the Seminario Bíblico de Colombia, and a Master of Arts in theology as well as a Ph.D. in intercultural studies from Asbury Theological Seminary. Prior to his election to the Board of Trustees, Ricardo taught as an adjunct professor at Asbury Seminary and served for several years on the Asbury Seminary Alumni Council. He and Beth have two teenage children, Juliana & Jonathan.

    Ricardo Gomez is an excellent choice to serve on the ATS Board. He is a dynamic servant-leader, a man of prayer and vision, an excellent scholar/teacher and a warm-hearted seeker after holiness. There are few finer than this godly brother.
