Admitted Doctor of Philosophy Students

Congratulations on your admission to a Ph.D. program at Asbury Seminary! We are pleased that you have decided to apply to Asbury Seminary, and we hope to see you in the fall! We understand that choosing a Ph.D. program involves careful consideration of a number of factors. We are already praying and preparing for your arrival, and we invite you to do the same. The next steps in the process of enrolling include connecting, committing, and coming to Asbury Seminary.

Connecting to Asbury Seminary

Your oneATS Account

In the application process, you were invited to set up a personal online account, known as your oneATS account. If you have not yet done so, you will want to register for an account as a first step towards becoming a student. Through your account, you will be able to access your Asbury Seminary email (see below), as well as the Asbury Information System (AIS). AIS gives you access to your personal account information, through which you will be able to register for classes, pay your bills online, and view your grades. You can register for a oneATS account by following these instructions:

  • Go to https://one.asburyseminary.edu
  • Click on “register for an account”
  • Enter your ID number and your email address
  • Your oneATS username will be created
  • Set your oneATS password
  • Add to the oneATS account to your favorites menu
  • Be sure to remember your oneATS username and password.

Asbury Seminary Email

Your Asbury Seminary email address will be created as soon as you are admitted. You can access your email through your oneATS account (see above). You will want to check this email regularly, since we will use it to send all official Seminary communications.

Financial Aid

A limited number of scholarships are available each year for incoming students in the Advanced Research Programs. During the admissions process, you should have received an invitation to apply for any scholarships to which you are eligible. For questions, you are welcome to contact financial.aid@asburyseminary.edu.

Committing to Asbury Seminary

Confirm Your Admission

Application to the Ph.D. program is a competitive process, and each year we receive more qualified applications than we can accept.  In being admitted, we have discerned that you are at the top of our list. We understand, though, that your ability to start the program in the fall will be dependent on a number of factors, including economic and social considerations, for instance. When you discern that you will be able to join the Ph.D. program in the fall, we ask that you confirm your intentions of enrolling by completing two additional steps:

  1. Confirm your intent by informing your Admissions Counselor in writing (email).
  2. Submit a matriculation deposit to your student account. This $100 non-refundable deposit will not only confirm your status as a student, but it will also go toward your first semester’s tuition. This will allow us to send your file to the Registrar’s Office so they can create your student program enrollment, a necessary step in the process of registering for classes. You can submit your deposit by mailing a check or money order, or you can pay by credit card either through your oneATS account or by calling the Business Office at 859.8582286.

We ask that you complete the first of these steps as soon as possible, and no later than the deadline given in your letter from the Admissions Office. This will allow us to finalize the incoming class and inform anybody who may be on a waitlist regarding the status of their application.

Housing at Asbury Seminary

The Ph.D. program is a full-time and residential program on our Kentucky Campus. Thus, students are eligible to apply for on-campus housing. More information and housing applications can be found on our website (link). Once you have been admitted, you can submit your application.

Student Insurance

All students at Asbury Seminary, whether full- or part-time, are required to have health insurance coverage. Asbury Seminary offers student insurance for those who are not otherwise covered. More information about the coverage that is available to students can be found on our website (link). Students who are otherwise covered by a health insurance plan must waive student insurance every semester before the drop-add deadline through their oneATS account. If the insurance is not waived, you will be automatically covered by the student insurance plan, and the cost of coverage will be applied to your Business Office account.

Coming to Asbury Seminary

Moving Into On-Campus Housing

If you have applied to on-campus housing on our Kentucky Campus (see above) and housing has been assigned, the Office of Student Services will send you information regarding your move-in date.

Mentor

Students are assigned a mentor when they enter the program by the Office of Advanced Research Programs. The mentor is assigned based on the student’s area of research interest, as well as the number of students currently working with particular faculty.

Registration for the first semester of courses will occur at orientation. You will not be able to enroll into courses before orientation.

New Student Orientation

Whether you live on campus or off, start your Asbury Seminary experience by joining us for 2-3 days of information and community at New Student Orientation (NSO) on the Kentucky campus! At orientation, you will have a chance to connect with other students, as well as faculty and staff who will be teaching courses and helping you navigate your time at Asbury Seminary. On your campus tour, you will learn how to collect and send mail at the Seminary Post Office (SPO), check out books at the library, find your classes, and where to go for lunch and dinner! During Ph.D. specific sessions, you will gain understanding of the basic components and process of your program, and you will meet your faculty mentor and register for courses.
