Admitted International Students

Congratulations on your acceptance to Asbury Seminary! We look forward to you joining our community! If you will be entering the United States on a student visa (F-1 or J-1) your initial point of contact will be the Manager of International Services for visa related matters. Please carefully review the checklist below to make sure you have taken the appropriate steps to complete your enrollment.

Before Your Arrival to Campus

Complete Financial Certification

Download and complete the Financial Certification Form and mail it to the Manager of International Services at international.services@asburyseminary.edu or by post to:

You can find the Financial Certification forms online using your oneATS account. The documents are on the International Services page under Student Resources.

You must complete the Financial Certification Form and submit additional supporting documentation to facilitate the issuance of the Certificate of Eligibility. All submitted documentation must be in English. To avoid delays in the processing of your travel documents please send the required documentation by the following dates:

Receive Certificate of Eligibility and Apply for Student Visa

Once you have successfully completed your Financial Certification and submitted your supporting documents to the Manager of International Services you will then be issued a Certificate of Eligibility: Form I-20 or Form DS-2019.

Once you have received your Certificate of Eligibility, Check your document against your passport information to make sure that your name and date of birth (DOB) are correctly listed and spelled. If the form is incorrect, please contact the Manager of International Services immediately to have the document corrected.

If you are currently studying in the United States on a F-1 or J-1 visa you will need to have your SEVIS record transferred from your current institution. Please download the Transfer Form and return it to the Manager of International Services.

Pay SEVIS I-901 Fee

Once you receive your Certificate of Eligibility, you will then need to pay the SEVIS I-901 Fee by visiting www.fmjfee.com to submit a payment. For more information about the SEVIS I-901 fee, please click here.

Schedule Visa Appointment

Once you have paid your SEVIS fee you will need to schedule an appointment with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. To locate the nearest embassy to you, please visit the following site: http://www.usembassy.gov/

When you go to the embassy for your interview, remember to bring the following items:

  • Letter of acceptance to Asbury Theological Seminary
  • Certificate of Eligibility – Form I-20 or DS-2019
  • Documentation showing your sources of funding
  • Passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of your travel
  • Proof of your intent to return to your home country after the completion of your program.

Please Note: Canadian citizens are not required to interview at an U.S. Embassy or consulate for a student visa. Your visa will be issued at the port of entry. Please be sure to care the documents above to the port of entry.

Schedule Airport Pick Up

Asbury Theological Seminary offers a free shuttle service from the Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Ky. If you wish to be picked up from the airport please book your flight to arrive in Lexington (Airport code: LEX) and send your itinerary to the Manager of International Services at least two weeks in advance of your arrival.

After Your Arrival to Campus

Check In and SEVIS Registration

Once you arrive to campus please meet with the Manager of International Services to let us know of your arrival and to register your SEVIS record.  Please bring copies of your travel documents and your dependents. (I-20, Passport, & I-94).

Have student ID made

Your student ID can be made in the B.L. Fisher Library at the information desk.

Meet with an Academic Advisor and Register for classes

An advisor will discuss your educational goals and assist you in choosing classes that fit your needs. Click here to learn more about the Academic Advising office.

Pay your tuition

Bills are handled through the Seminary’s Business Office. There are a variety of payment options, to contact the Business Office please click here.

Buy your books

Bring your course schedule with you to the Asbury Seminary Bookstore and the staff will help you find what you need. You can also purchase your books online.

Attend International Student Orientation

Every new student is required to attend the New Student Orientation for international students which is held several days before the start of the semester. Please check your arrival packet for more detailed information.
