How does the mentoring program work?
Order of Asbury alumni mentors are assigned to students who have indicated a desire to join the mentoring program. The pairing will be first based on matching vocation or calling and, as much as possible, on close geographic location. The alumni mentor and the student are expected to actively participate in the mentoring relationship throughout the year. At the end of each year participants will fill out a survey about his/her experience. The relationship can be renewed for the following year or gracefully ended.
These relationships will be assigned and managed primarily through the Distributed Learning office. The Alumni and Community Formation offices will also collaborate and support the project.
- Contact mentor within the first week of being assigned. This can be by email, letter, phone call, social media, etc.
- Continue to contact mentor at minimum once a month. Be responsive to the mentor and always reply to contacts.
- Be open to share and ask questions.
- Engage the process fully and honestly.
- If possible, meet face to face with mentor at least once per year for a time of one-on-one personal engagement.
To join the mentoring program and be paired with an alumni mentor this fall, fill out the application.
In accordance with federal law Asbury Theological Seminary does not release any student educational record information without prior student consent other than specified student directory information as defined in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA). Directory information may include the student’s name, address, telephone listing, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in any recognized club, organization or activity, church relationship, spouse, academic classification, degrees, awards and the most recent previous educational institution attended.
Students may prevent disclosure of such directory information by waiving his/her rights within this act by notifying the Registrar in writing within 30 days of the commencement of the term or semester he/she are entering the seminary or within 30 days of the commencement of any fall semester, or via the Who’s Who exemption option made available within the seminary’s web portal for enrolled students.
As a participant in the mentoring program, you are agreeing to waive your rights within this act in order not to restrict the release of such directory information thereby granting school officials authorization to disclose part or all of your directory information only to the Community Formation, Distributed Learning, Alumni offices, and the Order of Asbury mentor for the sole purpose of maintaining your eligibility in the program. Please be certain if you choose to participate in this program, that you do NOT opt out of the Who’s Who Directory, since this will prevent the Seminary from releasing the required directory information.
