How does the mentoring program work?

Order of Asbury alumni mentors are assigned to students who have indicated a desire to join the mentoring program. The pairing will be first based on matching vocation or calling and, as much as possible, on close geographic location. The alumni mentor and the student are expected to actively participate in the mentoring relationship throughout the year. At the end of each year participants will fill out a survey about his/her experience. The relationship can be renewed for the following year or gracefully ended.

These relationships will be assigned and managed primarily through the Distributed Learning office. The Alumni and Community Formation offices will also collaborate and support the project.

Student Commitment:

  • Contact mentor within the first week of being assigned. This can be by email, letter, phone call, social media, etc.
  • Continue to contact mentor at minimum once a month. Be responsive to the mentor and always reply to contacts.
  • Be open to share and ask questions.
  • Engage the process fully and honestly.
  • If possible, meet face to face with mentor at least once per year for a time of one-on-one personal engagement.

To join the mentoring program and be paired with an alumni mentor this fall, fill out the application.
