Student Insurance
All students on the Orlando and Wilmore campuses* who are enrolled at a half-time status or greater — generally defined as taking five credit hours or more per semester or “pursuing a full course of study” — in any fall or spring semester session are required to have health insurance coverage. Such students must enroll in the student injury and sickness insurance plan that is negotiated by the Seminary with a third-party provider or provide proof of comparable insurance (defined as insurance which provides a level of coverage that meets or exceeds the minimum coverage of the student plan, as indicated in the plan’s current Schedule of Benefits, which can be found in the plan brochure at the website below) through the waiver process each semester.
In addition, all students from outside the United States (students with non-US citizenship), referred to hereafter as “International Students,” are required to purchase the student injury and sickness insurance plan for themselves and all family members who reside in the US with them, unless they provide proof of comparable insurance (as defined above). Please read the following document for a detailed explanation of this policy: International Insurance Requirements. All International Students must have coverage for medical evacuation and repatriation of remains, as well as maternity benefits.
Enrollment/Waiver Process
All students who meet the criteria defined above must enroll in or waive the student insurance each semester (fall and spring) by no later than the add/drop date for that semester, or they will be automatically charged for the student health insurance plan for that semester (and this is non-refundable). Students must enroll or waive online using their personal student account at https://student.asburyseminary.edu. Questions regarding the enrollment/waiver process should be directed to the Student Account Manager at (859) 858-2279 or by email to student_insurance@asburyseminary.edu . Due to HIPPA regulations, questions about benefits, claims, etc. must be directed to the insurance broker or the claims administrator. (It is illegal for Asbury Seminary to handle personal health information.) The plan brochure, claim forms, rates, and contact information for the insurance broker and claims administrator are available at the website listed below. Please read the appropriate section in the Seminary’s Catalog (“Student Health Insurance”) for additional details.
