Estes Chapel Renovations Update

Published Date: January 2, 2018

Renovations began on Estes Chapel just prior to Thanksgiving. Our construction crew has been hard at work, dismantling the Chapel with utmost care. It looks a lot different in there! First, the pews were taken out:

Estes Chapel sure does look much larger when the space is emptied. We can’t wait to be back in the space and worshiping the Lord on such holy ground!

All the pews were carefully disassembled and have taken a journey to be restored to their former luster; they will be just like new!

Part of honoring any legacy or special place is in caring for the items that have been left for us.

Now, the carpet has been stripped out, revealing the concrete floor and platform:

It sure looks bare, but we are excited to see what beauty comes of it! Note that the organ vents have been carefully covered, to ensure no dust or debris has a chance to affect our beautiful organ’s inner workings.

How exciting! Would you like to help? We are currently raising funds for all the hymnals in our chapels (including Estes) to be replaced with Asbury’s own hymnal. This is a project that has been in the works for more than a year, and a panel of people have worked hard to find the best hymns that represent Asbury’s theology and ethos as well as the broad spectrum of traditions and nations that are represented here. It has been a labor of love, for sure!

We began this project with a $40,000 goal. One generous donor has agreed to match every dollar given, up to $20,000. That effectively cut our costs in half! So far, 65 donors have raised $8,580 toward that $20,000 goal. And, with any gift of $100 or more, you can request a of the new Asbury Hymnal, signed by Dr. and Mrs. Tennent. In addition, for every gift of $25 or more, you can request an Asbury exclusive Susanna Wesley plush doll.
