How-To Make a Visit to Seminary Fun for the Whole Family

Every alumni looks forward to the day they can come back to Asbury Theological Seminary and walk through campus, passing the familiar buildings, landmarks, and statues. However, after getting a picture with Francis Asbury astride his horse, many children may lose the sense of awe their parents have for the campus that has become a cornerstone in their faith journey. Here is a list of activities the whole family can enjoy during a visit to Asbury Theological Seminary:

Outdoor Activities

Some families bond the most while spending time in the great outdoors. Wilmore, Kentucky is full of beautiful sights and trails to bring the family together. Asbury Trails offers a hiking experience on the Kentucky River only five minutes away from campus as well as horse and pony rides. Wilmore Berry Farm is a free outdoor experience that includes picking berries and petting baby animals. Families can also visit Shakervillage, located just outside of Wilmore, for guided tours and trails suitable for all skillsets.

Educational

Families who learn together, grow together. Families with older children can venture out of Wilmore and into the nearby city of Lexington to a number of learning opportunities for every interest. The Aviation Museum of Kentucky allows families to test their knowledge of planes, and even slip inside aircrafts during guided or self-guided tours. Waveland Historic Home offers guided tours of the antebellum plantation as well Tea Tuesdays and other single-day events like historic baseball games. Families can also see what the great state of Kentucky is known for by visiting the Kentucky horse park and possibly brushing elbows and flanks with a famous Derby winner.

Recreational

Sometimes family vacation is all about kicking back and letting loose. Nicholasville and Lexington are full of different recreational activities for the family that will have your kids jumping for joy—literally. Sky Zone Trampoline Park is the perfect activity to let kids get their energy out after sitting quietly through a chapel in Estes. Lexington Ice Center’s Bible mini-golf is a draw for locals and tourists alike, and features unique structures of bible stories throughout the golf course. Malibu Jack’s Indoor Fun Park is on the rise and offers a number of activities—from go-karts to laser tag for children and adults of all ages.

While getting back to your roots is the draw to coming to back to Wilmore; and you can’t imagine not getting excited about the Welsey brothers’ statues, venturing away from Asbury to other destinations will create a family vacation that will excite parents and children alike. A trip that will be the making of future Asburians who can’t help but get a thrill out of hearing the name, John Wesley.
