What is a Cross-Cultural Ministry Experience?
How to Begin
- You will take 2 semesters of Mentored Ministry. Plan to start when you have completed 20-30 credit-hours. You may register for MM601 after you have completed IS501 (Kingdom, Church and World) and IS502 (Vocation of Ministry) classes.
- Your first semester's Mentored Ministry placement is in a local church. Attending that church well in advance of becoming a Mentored Ministry student is advisable.
- MM602 extends your ministry in the church outside the church walls to a cross-cultural setting.
- It is your responsibility to select a Mentor who is qualified according to the Mentored Ministry Handbook and to inquire about her/his church.
- Make sure that your Mentor attends the mandatory Mentored Ministry training. Check with the Mentored Ministry office for dates.
- Set up a time to meet with your Mentor to go over responsibilities and to sign the Mentor-Student Contract which is located in the Handbook. You will work 8 hours in practical ministry each week, spending an additional hour meeting with your mentor and time to reflecting theologically over your experiences of that week.
- You will attend a 2-2.5 hour Campus Reflection Group.
- Note: The Mentored Ministry Handbook may be printed from the Asbury Seminary webpage. It includes a descriptions of Mentored Ministry and all the forms you will need for both semesters.
- Assignments include progress reports on learning goals, case studies, checklists and evaluations; all to be submitted to your professor.
