Seedbed to Publish second book from University Minister, Guy Chmieleski, a candid exploration of the greatest seductions facing today’s college students.

Franklin, Tennessee, June 1, 2013—Seedbed Publishing has entered an agreement to publish Dr. Guy Chmieleski’s second book, Campus gods: Exposing the Idols that Can Derail Your Present and Destroy Your Future.  (working title)

“The university campus may be the most strategic soil in the kingdom of God and we must work together to cultivate it for the twenty-first-century world, said Dr. Chmieleski. “With the dual trends of the college years as an extended period of adolescence and the rise of a highly genericized version of the Christian faith, it is imperative to creatively and compellingly infuse the whole gospel of grace and truth into the spiritual life of the campus.”

“One of Seedbed’s core commitments is to the college campus. We have a tremendous interest and energy for publishing a rich theological vision for life, faith, and future vocation geared for college students and the campus ministries who serve them,” said J. D. Walt, Seedbed’s sower-in-chief.

Following on the heels of his first book, Shaping Their Future: Mentoring College Students Through Their Formative Years, aimed at those who would mentor college students, this next book is written for the students themselves. Walt added, “Guy has the pulse of today’s college campus. He understands the unique challenge of pastoring a generation of students whose sophistication far outdistances their maturity.  We are honored to work with him in this crucial calling.”

This new book, expected to release in the fall of 2013, steers clear of the typical moralizing tone so often employed with today’s student. Instead, Chmieleski speaks with a shepherding voice, getting on the level with college students, outlining a reasonable faith with spiritual depth. Despite boldly foraying into the seductive minefield of what the author calls “Campus gods,” the book maintains a conversational and even invitational tone. The book will be perfect for small groups of college students to read and talk through together.

Walt noted, “As large portions of the church seem to shrink back from their commitment to campus ministry it is imperative that we find and amplify voices like those of Guy Chmieleski and others in the critical task of presenting the Church as a missional beacon in the midst of the university.”

Dr. Guy Chmieleski serves as university minister at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. He also gives direction to the popular campus ministry website, FaithOnCampus.com, a treasure trove of practical wisdom for the men and women giving leadership to campus ministries.
