Dr. Francis Watson, Theta Phi Lecture
Dr. Francis Watson, author, Christian scholar and professor of New Testament Exegesis at the University of Durham (U.K.), will visit Asbury Seminary Mar. 6-7 as the spring 2008 Theta Phi lecturer. He will speak in chapel Thurs. and Fri., Mar. 6-7 at 11 a.m. in Estes Chapel on the seminary's Kentucky campus. Dr. Watson will also speak at a New Testament colloquium on Mar. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Beeson Center room 157. More details will be available soon.
Watson is a respected scholar in the areas of biblical interpretation and the theological interpretation of scripture. His book Paul, Judaism, and the Gentiles: Beyond the New Perspective was released Oct. 2007.
The Theta Phi Lectures are sponsored by the local chapter of Theta Phi, an international honor society in the field of religion. The lectures alternate their focus between theological and biblical studies, year by year. Past lecturers include John Howard Yoder, Elizabeth Struthers Malbon, Wolfhart Pannenberg, Elizabeth Achtemeier, James D.G. Dunn, Karlfried Froehlich, Geoffrey Wainwright and I. Howard Marshall and William J. Abraham.
