- Thursday, February 5th, 2009 * 6-8 p.m. Location: M307
Those wanting to take the exam should inform Brad Johnson, Teaching Fellow, who is also available to answer additional questions about the exam. Contact him at Bradley_Johnson@asburyseminary.edu, via phone at 859-858-2030, or at his office in AD401 (Administration Bldg., 4th floor).
The exam will consist of three parts.
Part I.
Students will translate two passages: one taken from the Gospel of Mark, the other taken from either the Gospel of John or 1 John. For vocabulary help, students may bring a standard lexicon such as BDAG, LSJ, etc. Lexica will not be provided for students taking the exam. Students may not use an analytical lexicon or any other resource that provides parsing information or morphological assistance.
Part II.
Students will fully parse ten (10) words selected by the examiner from the translated passage(s) in Part I.
Part III.
Students will identify or explain some grammatical constructions also selected by the examiner from the translated passage(s) in Part I.
The parsing and grammatical constructions will be typical of those treated in a first year Greek grammar text. For review purposes, David Alan Black’s, Learn to Read New Testament Greek is recommended.
Students must complete the exam within the allotted time frame of two (2) hours; however, students for whom English is a second language will be granted one (1) additional hour. Within 24 hours of the completion of the exam, students will be notified via email (or phone, where necessary) with results. For students obtaining a minimum score of 75%, the NT501 (Comprehensive Greek I) requirement will be waived. For students obtaining a minimum score of 85%, the NT501 (Comprehensive Greek I) and NT502 (Comprehensive Greek II) requirements will be waived.
Special Note: Off-site proctored exams are available for Florida and Virtual (ExL) campus students.
