Dr. David Watson: Together in Mission
Dear Alumni and Friends,
As another academic year comes to a close, I want to pause and give thanks for the many ways God continues to work through the ministry of Asbury Theological Seminary. Last month, we celebrated the graduation of 342 students who are now being sent into churches, ministries, mission fields, classrooms, and communities around the world. Every graduate represents lives that will be touched by the gospel and the ongoing mission of Christ.
Looking Ahead: Strategic Planning and New Initiatives
In May, our Board of Trustees gathered for its spring meeting and affirmed an institutional strategic planning process that will guide the Seminary through the coming years. This work will help ensure that Asbury remains faithful to its mission while responding wisely to new opportunities for ministry and theological education.
The Board also affirmed two significant initiatives in the Washington, D.C. area. Plans are underway to launch a Doctor of Ministry cohort for military chaplains beginning in 2027. In addition, a generous gift is enabling the Seminary to explore the development of a new center focused on public and political theology, helping Christians think faithfully about their engagement in society and public life.
Celebrating Faculty Excellence
We are delighted to announce that Dr. Kenneth Collins has been named the inaugural holder of the Amos Chair in Wesleyan Theology. This endowed chair was made possible through the generosity of the Amos family and recognizes Dr. Collins’s distinguished contributions to Wesleyan scholarship and theological education.
We also celebrate Dr. Steve O’Malley, who has been granted Faculty Emeritus status in recognition of his years of faithful service to the Seminary and the Church.
Honoring Retiring Faculty
As we give thanks for God’s faithfulness, we also honor six retiring faculty members: Dr. Joe Dongell, Dr. Steve Martyn, Dr. Jim Miller, Dr. Steve O’Malley, Dr. Mike Peterson, and Dr. Steve Stratton, whose service has shaped generations of Christian leaders. We invite you to celebrate their legacy through a special gift to the Scholarship Fund, helping future students receive the same Christ-centered education they so faithfully provided.

Encouraging Enrollment News
Summer enrollment exceeded expectations this year, providing an encouraging sign of continued interest in theological education and ministry preparation. We are grateful for the students who continue to choose Asbury Seminary as a place of formation and preparation for service.
A Season of Gratitude
Like many institutions of higher education, Asbury Seminary continues to navigate challenges and opportunities in a changing environment. Through it all, we remain committed to our mission of preparing theologically educated, sanctified, Spirit-filled men and women to spread scriptural holiness throughout the world.
Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and partnership. Your continued support helps make possible the work of educating and equipping servant leaders for the Church and the world.
May God bless you and your ministry.
Grace and peace,
David F. Watson
