A Keepsake that is Authentically Asbury
Asbury Theological Seminary holds a rich history of biblical training for ministers of the gospel from all over the world. It is a unique melting pot of diverse cultures and Christian traditions. As we have worshiped together and become a community, one thing is clear: we are made far richer by experiencing the fullness of what each of us brings in terms of culture and the ways we worship and interact with God.
This is why we have decided that it is time to capture the heart of our rich diversity here in our glorious, global community!
As part of the renovation of our iconic Estes Chapel, where so many lives have been utterly transformed, our faculty and staff have worked hard to create our very own Asbury hymnal.
The project committee had this to say: “This is not a hymn collection of everyone’s favorites; rather, it is designed to put forward a core collection of hymns that represent Asbury Seminary, and that expose Asbury’s students to the wealth of our heritage and theology so richly preserved through hymnody.”
Our Asbury hymnal will focus on the Wesleyan heritage we have been given, with the rich theology of hymns like “O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing” and “Hail to the Lord’s Anointed” as well as seasonal treasures like “Thou Who Wast Rich” and “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.”

This is a perfect way to honor the legacy of Estes Chapel!
Over the years, I have often quoted the words of a hymn that has meant much to me. We sang it often in chapel but I have not heard it sung since my days at ATS in the early 60’s. I hope it is included in the hymnal.
I want a principle within of watchful godly fear,
A sensitivity to sin to know when it is near.
I look forward to receiving a copy of the hymnal when available.
This sounds like a marvelous way to communicate the message of the Wesleyan Revival, and to teach the Scriptural truths that have made Asbury great.
Is there any idea of when the hymnals will become available? I made a donation several months ago.
Absolutely! The hymnals will be in their last stages of production this spring and should be released some time this summer. We are so excited to see the final product and get them sent out to all the people who have so faithfully given!
