Additionally, Steve serves as Co-Director of Mentored Ministry and teaches in the areas of Spiritual Formation and Discipleship.

Before joining the Seminary team, Steve and his wife Karoline ministered for seventeen years as missionaries with the Methodist Church of Costa Rica. Steve worked primarily with the Methodist Seminary as a professor, administrator, and during the last eight years of his tenure as President of the Seminary. Currently, Steve is researching the intersection of Spiritual Formation and emerging models of non-residential theological education among U.S. Hispanic students. Regardless of the particular educational platform, Steve is committed to promoting spiritual transformation and renewal in the lives of students and the seminary community to help Asbury Seminary send forth transformed men and women who live out Asbury Seminary’s mission and God’s call on their lives.

Steve enjoys connecting Asbury Seminary faculty and students as well as church leaders and laity to God’s Global Mission. He is privileged to do this through his participation in Asbury Seminary’s Global Partnerships in Latin America and through the coordination of travel courses to Costa Rica. Steve and Karoline have two children. Their daughter Natalia studies at Asbury University and their son Fernando is a senior in high school. As a family, they regularly return to Costa Rica to support the continued development of leaders and the life of the Methodist Church and Seminary.
