Asbury Seminary celebrates 100 years of preparing theologically educated, sanctified, Spirit-filled men and women to evangelize and to spread scriptural holiness throughout the world. Throughout the 2022-2023 calendar year, the Seminary will reflect on God’s faithfulness for the past 100 years and look forward to the future with a variety of events.
In 1923, founder and president H.C. Morrison opened Asbury Seminary with a class of three students and an audacious seal that read “The Whole Bible for the Whole World.” The Seminary graduated its first male student, Samuel Arthur Maxwell in 1924, and its first female student, Faith M. Scull-Wright with a Bachelor of Divinity in 1926. One hundred years later, the Seminary has more than 13,000 alumni serving in every time zone around the world
Asbury Seminary marks the completion of its first 100 years by thanking God for the past and looking forward to the future. As the Seminary reflects on its history, we remember God’s faithfulness throughout several historic milestones, including WWII, the Civil Rights movement, and the loss and restoration of accreditation. We also celebrate God’s provision for the future with the successful completion of the Hundredfold Campaign that will continue to support worldwide revival and renewal.
Since its founding in 1923, Asbury Seminary has grown from an enrollment of three students to more than 1800 and boasts an alumni base of more than 13,000 graduates. During its 100 years, the Seminary has maintained its commitment to providing a formative theological education that melds rigorous academics with spiritual formation to send biblically sound, Spirit-filled men and women into the world for Christ and the church.
Asbury Seminary celebrates 100 years of equipping students to serve around the world by celebrating our more than 13,000 alumni. We have alumni serving in every time zone, in every state, and on every continent. Together they are reaching the world through churches, mission fields, trash dumps, inner cities, national parks, universities, coffee houses, businesses, and community gardens, to name a few.
