Kevin Bish, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Services, received the title of Kentuc0183 0853ky Colonel from Governor Matt Bevin for his outstanding service to the Seminary and
 community.

The title of Kentucky Colonel is the highest title of honor given by the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s sitting governor. This award recognizes noteworthy accomplishments and service to the community, state or nation.

“Kevin is a vibrant member of our community, and we congratulate him on this award,” said Dr. Timothy Tennent, President of Asbury Seminary. “We are grateful for his work at Asbury Seminary, as well as within the larger community.”

The title “Kentucky Colonel” was formalized in 1813, following the War of 1812. Early colonels served in military roles and attended functions at the Governor’s mansion. However, by the late 19th century the title had become more of an honorary one, and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels was established in 1932.

This award has been given to people from “all walks of life,” including celebrities, athletes, artists and politicians. Past notable recipients of the award include Harland David Sanders, Ashley Judd, Winston Churchill and Rosemary Clooney.
