Overwhelmed by the Spirit: A Biblical Study on Discovering the Spirit
by Dr. Randall A. Harrison (MAR, 1989)
How do principles of inductive Bible study and exegesis apply to the interpretation of controversial expressions like “filled with the Spirit” and “baptized with the Spirit”? The book opens with the author’s own eyewitness account of an overwhelming manifestation of God’s power and transitions quickly into an extensive biblical study on the various experiences with the Spirit described in Luke-Acts. Observations on the role of the Holy Spirit in the book as-a-whole provide important clues for the interpretation of the disciples’ experiences. The author draws from more than 35 years of missionary experience and 10 years of teaching New Testament exegesis at the West Africa Alliance Seminary in Côte d’Ivoire to produce this detailed biblical study. The Second Woman Bible Study
by Penny Smith (NG Alum)
The Second Woman Bible Study—which takes its name from the story of King Solomon’s ruling regarding a child and two possible mothers—offers guidance to women who have endured traumatic experiences or made life choices they regret. This study offers a 10-week program to facilitate healing from domestic violence, sexual violence or post-abortion grief. Each week, the study focuses on one of the 10 processes of change or interventions that encourage change based on the Transtheoretical Model of Change, developed by psychologist James Prochaska.
Dr. Smith accepted her calling into Ministry in 2012 while testing her call by attending Asbury Theological Seminary. She is the survivor of date rape, and domestic violence. She is the mother of Kenaniah Armstrong whose name means “rooted in Yahweh” and an unborn child due to an abortion at age 19 who is posthumously named Zoe, meaning, “God kind of life”.
A native of Danville, Kentucky, Penny Smith is a higher education and government executive administrator. She served as Assistant Provost for a Historically Black College and Commissioner/Executive Director for a former Commonwealth of Kentucky Governor. Currently she is an Executive Director at a medical school. Penny R.
