Asbury Welcomes Record Numbers of DMin Students!

Published Date: May 11, 2018

Every summer, the Doctor of Ministry program welcomes students from around the world to our campus here in Wilmore. We always joke that you don’t have to leave Wilmore to see the world because the world comes to Wilmore every July and August! This is especially true when our cohorts arrive each July and August and fill our halls with stories of their ministry contexts from around the globe.

This year, the DMin team is preparing to welcome a record number of new students in July for our yearly Preaching and Leading cohort as well as our brand new cohort in Organizational Leadership, where students will dive deeply into adaptive leadership to become culture shapers in their ministry contexts. Collaborative (not solo) leadership requires particular character, strategy, and perspective. Anchored in biblical and theological foundations, supported by relevant leadership theory and practice, the Organizational Leadership DMin degree equips pastors, directors, and educators. Students’ capacities develop from the inside out in a vibrant, spiritually formative environment that equips minds, hearts, and hands for a new season of calling.

With every new cohort that we welcome, we get the opportunity to meet students from all walks of life and from all around the world. This year is no exception! Our new cohorts feature international students from 20 different countries! Here are some of the stats on these new students:

  • Total: 75 students
  • Organizational Leadership (ORG): 27
  • Preaching and Leading (PLE): 48
  • Domestic Students: 34 (includes 2 additional FWE students added this year)
  • International Students: 41
    • Countries Include: Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Jordan, Kenya, Korea, Liberia, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, South Africa and the United Kingdom
  • Female Students: 7
  • Along with this group of new students, we will be welcoming back our second year group of 59 exceptional men and women in our Preaching and Leading cohort, Church Planting cohort, and Faith, Work, and Economics cohort. Here’s what this group of returning students brings to the table:

    • Total:  57 students
    • Church Planting (CPC): 12
    • Faith, Work, and Economics (FWE): 11
    • Preaching and Leading (PLE): 36
  • Domestic Students: 35
  • International Students: 22
    • Countries include: Canada, Central Africa Republic, Congo, Ghana, India, South Korea, Liberia, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, Romania, South Africa, and the United Kingdom
  • Female students: 6
  • One of the many amazing things that we get to witness as a team is the community that is built amongst these men and women during their time on campus. They become so much more than classmates. We watch them grow together through their time in the program, especially during their first year. In fact, one of the wonderful things we get to witness is when the cohorts are reunited in August for their second year residency! It’s one big celebration that feels a little bit like a family reunion. The community and spiritual formation aspect of the DMin program at Asbury is something we treasure.

We anticipate great things from this amazing group of preachers and leaders and are so excited to host both our new and returning students for their residency here at Asbury this coming summer!

    1. Isaac Chukpue-Padmore says:

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I am so delighted that Asbury continues to run this program with all that they have with the blessings of God. This program is indeed a witness to to the global Church and community. I am a proud beneficiary and product of the Beeson Program, a 2009 cohort. I am providing leadership in Liberia and the West Africa region of the United Methodist Church. I am glad that Liberia is still in the program. Many thanks to the leadership and the benefactors of the program. May God bless you all.
