Navigating Complexity in Our World
Learning Lab Webinar
April 21, 2021 @ 3p ET
This month we will be joined by Dr. Gregg Okesson, the Dean of the E. Stanley Jones School of World Mission and Evangelism here at Asbury Seminary.
How can Christians witness to the complexity of our world? Dr. Okesson will explore how local congregations are the primary means of public witness in and for the world. As Christians move back and forth between their churches and their neighborhoods, workplaces, and other public spaces, they weave a thick gospel witness. This presentation will explore the themes of his recent book and help explain how local congregations can thicken their witness in the public realms where they live, work, and play.
We are excited to partner with leaders and entrepreneurs who are engaging in new, innovative approaches to church planting in the 21st century. Each year, qualified planters are selected to be a part of our Fellowship Program. Fellows participate in a one-year cohort with other planters from a variety of contexts and backgrounds. They also receive grant funding of up to $5,000, enjoy free resources, and receive regular coaching calls from an expert in a contextually appropriate area. If you are in the first 1-3 years of planting a new church, then we invite you to apply for our next cohort beginning in Summer 2021.
Multiethnic Church Planting Institute
Have you ever felt called to start a new church that takes seriously both the call to Gospel faithfulness and the Biblical message of racial reconciliation? Such a call is as terrifying as it is exciting, but with prayer and the right training, that vision can become a reality. We have crafted the Multiethnic Church Planting Institute to help prepare women and men to answer their call and start innovative and thriving communities of faith that bridge historical divides and embody the unity we have in Christ. This hybrid Institute blends video content and live-virtual sessions to create an effective but flexible training experience for ministry.
If you have ever felt this call to church planting and are interested in participating in this training, please complete the interest form and we will follow-up with all information regarding official registration for the event.
In this conversation between friends, Winfield and Iosmar discuss the critical importance of discipleship systems for any new church plant, and the rapid reproducibility of plants that do establish these well. Join us for this conversation about micro church movements, raising up local leadership, and the importance of keeping planting as part of any church’s DNA.
Dr. Iosmar Alvarez emigrated to the U.S. from Cuba. When he arrived in the U.S. in 2001, God called him to lead and serve among the Hispanic people. He has served as the senior pastor of Fuente de Avivamiento in Lexington, Ky., CEO of Disciple 21 Church Planting Network, and is now the District Superintendent in Lexington, Ky. He is a certified coach and recently earned his doctorate at Asbury Seminary. His goal is to plant 2500 churches by 2028, using traditional and non-traditional methods, to make disciples for Christ.
