Litany of Re-Commissioning and Presentation of the Campus
The Litany of Re-Commissioning was led by Dr. Timothy C. Tennent, President; Dr. Jeffrey E. Greenway, Former President; Dr. Kenneth C. Kinghorn, Professor of Church History and Historical Theology, Emeritus; Dr. Donald E. Demaray, Professor of Biblical Preaching, Emeritus; Dr. Ruth Anne Reese, Professor of New Testament; Dr. David L. McKenna, President Emeritus; Dr. Maxie Dunnam, President Emeritus; and Dr. J. Ellsworth Kalas, Former President and Senior Professor of Homiletics.
Tennent: Dear Friends, with unbounded joy in the presence of a great cloud of witnesses from the past and those who are here tonight, we present this Wilmore campus of Asbury Theological Seminary to be re-commissioned to the glory of Almighty God and for the purpose of preparing theologically educated, sanctified, Spirit-filled men and women to evangelize and to spread scriptural holiness throughout the world.
Let us therefore bring praise and thanksgiving for God’s goodness and mercy towards Asbury Theological Seminary.
Greenway: The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.
Response: The world and those who dwell in it.
Greenway: He set the earth on its foundations,
Response: So that it shall never be shaken.
Greenway: What can we do without the Lord’s help?
Response: With God, all things are possible.
Greenway: Come and see what God has done,
Response: How awesome his works in man’s behalf.
Greenway: Come, let us rejoice in him.
Response: He rules forever by his power.
Greenway: He has guided the founding and the growth of this campus.
Response: Praise the Lord, who blesses us abundantly.
Greenway: Praise the Lord, who builds His Kingdom with His people.
Response: Praise the Lord, whose foundation is Christ, the chief cornerstone.
Kinghorn: For those early pioneers of Asbury Theological Seminary who grasped the vision of a theological seminary based upon The Whole Bible for the Whole World:
Response: We give you thanks, O Lord.
Demaray: For those who, in the intervening years, and under your guidance, have expanded that vision and the physical campus to carry it out:
Response: We give you thanks, O Lord.
Reese: For the thousands of students who have been a part of this community of faith and learning and have gone forth to preach the Gospel and to witness for Christ:
Response: We give you thanks, O Lord.
McKenna: For those whose financial resources have enabled us to build up all these facilities:
Response: We give you thanks, O Lord.
Dunnam: For those who contributed their knowledge and those who gave of their sweat and labor:
Response: We give you thanks, O Lord.
Greenway: Grant, by your grace, that Asbury Theological Seminary will continue to teach the faith once delivered to the saints.
Response: Hear our prayer.
Kalas: Grant continued anointing upon our leaders that they may carry out the tasks for which they were chosen.
Response: Hear our prayer.
Tennent: We hereby re-commission the Wilmore campus of Asbury Theological Seminary for your holy purposes, O God.
