Genevieve Good, Master of Religious Education, 1951, went Home to the Place she had been looking forward to for a long time on Sunday evening, June 25, 2017, at 96 years of age. She lived a life of faithfulness to Jesus and quietly set a pattern for her family to follow. Genevieve was born August 21, 1920 near Whitewater, Indiana. At 12 years old she made her personal commitment to Jesus Christ. She graduated high school and went on to four years at Ball State College in Muncie, Indiana. Following college she taught 4th grade in Newcastle, Indiana for five years. She then attended Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky getting an MRE degree. From there she moved back to Indiana to return to elementary school teaching. In 1961 she married Harold Good, a widower with 6 children, and together they had a daughter, Sherrill. She worked part time at World Gospel Mission, where Harold worked full time. On Harold’s retirement, they moved to Salem, Oregon and lived happily in their home for 25 years. After a fall, which ultimately resulted in Harold’s death and a broken hip for Genevieve, she moved to Orchard Heights Senior Community for several years then to The Woods at Willowcreek, which was closer to her daughter. She lived contentedly there till her Homegoing, which she had eagerly awaited for many years. Remaining here on earth is her daughter Sherrill Kohl, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, one grand-daughter awaiting her in heaven, and Lynn Good, Doug Good, Clifford Good, Art Good, and Karen Good. She was preceded in death by Harold Good and Paul Good. David Marie Hunter, Master of Divinity, 1950, was born on May 26, 1921 to Dave and Mary Evelyn (Walters) Lindsey in Jack County, Texas. She passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017, in Wichita Falls, Texas, at 96 years old. Davie, as many called her, married Dr. Clarence VanDyke Hunter on March 7, 1948. She received her B.S. in Bible from Texas Woman’s University; M.A. in Theology from Winona Lake School of Theology; and Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary. She was a public school teacher, taught classes at Asbury College in Bible and English, and served as Assistant Librarian. Mrs. Hunter was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Jacksboro where she was a faithful member serving in many capacities including teaching Sunday School. Mrs. Hunter was the consummate preacher’s wife. She was a beautiful Christian woman inside and out, and she will be missed dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother John Lindsey; and sister Jean. Mrs. Hunter is survived today by her sister-in-law Carol Lindsey, niece Carolyn Lindsey and husband Walter Jones, nephews David Lindsey and wife Pam, Andrew Lindsey, and Jonathan Lindsey; several cousins, special caregivers Ken and Darlene Thompson and many other extended family members and friends. Lois Ina (Harris) Shafer, Master of Divinity, 1953, age 93, formerly of Anderson, Indiana, died June 30, 2017, at Colonial Oaks Nursing Home in Marion, Indiana following an extended illness. Lois was born on September 25, 1923 in Decker, Michigan, the daughter of Williard E. and Edna (O’meara) Harris. She was a 1940 graduate of Cass City High School in Cass City, Michigan, 1948 graduate of Taylor University, and 1953 graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary. She married Elmer R. Shafer on June 25, 1961. She served as director of Christian Education at First United Methodist Church in Buffalo, New York 1948-51, First United Methodist in Anderson 1953-61, and St. Matthew United Methodist 1981-86. She was active with United Methodist Women, and enjoyed sewing, oil painting, travel and family time. She was a member of the American Sewing Guild and United Federation of Doll Clubs. She is survived by her son; Steven (Peggy) L. Shafer of Gaston; 2 grandchildren; Nora L. (Michael) Earhart of Manhattan, Kansas, and Valerie A. (Robert) Bankson of Gaston; 9 great grandchildren; Reanna and Jessi Shafer, Zachary, Emily and Wyatt Earhart, and Annaliese, Kiersten, Christopher and Graham Bankson; a brother C. Bruce Harris of Texas and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson, Neil A. William O. “Bill” Swathwood, Master of Divinity, 1967, age 78, of Matthews, Indiana, passed peacefully early Thursday morning, July 20, 2017, in Wesleyan Health Care Center in Marion, Indiana, from complications of Parkinson’s disease. He was born on March 21, 1939 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of the late Paul and Delma (Todd) Swathwood. Bill graduated from Eastern High School in Lansing in 1957. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech and Drama from Asbury University in 1961. After teaching for two years in South Haven, Michigan, he returned to studies at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky in 1967. He also earned his Master’s Degree from Ball State University in 1972. Bill married Rebecca Kibbey, on August 4, 1962, in Matthews, Indiana. Together Bill and Becky were missionaries with One Mission Society for 35 years. They served in Taiwan from 1968-1982, the Philippines from 1984-1990, China from 1991-1993, and Hong Kong from 1994-2004. Bill taught English, directed drama performances, sponsored year book productions at school for missionary children. He also taught ESL. Bill and Becky moved back to Matthews, Indiana from Hong Kong in 2004. He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, where he taught various Bible studies & Sunday school classes after retirement. He also enjoyed reading, traveling, and gardening. Survivors include his wife of nearly 55 years, Becky Matthews; children, Dr. Todd (Shannon) Swathwood, and Tamara (Steve) Criffield, both of Anderson, South Carolina; a sister, Marilyn Simpson, Dryden, Michigan a brother, Kenneth (Sharon) Swathwood, Canadian Lakes, Michigan; six grandchildren, Katherine, Cameron, Sheridan, and Lauren Swathwood, and Maddie and Emma Criffield; a brother-in-law, Dick (Kay) Kibbey, Marion; and a sister-in-law, Ruth (Dr. James) Botkin, Marion, and several nieces and nephews.
