Mr. Glen L. Keys, Friend of Asbury, aged 90, of Tarpon Springs, FL passed away February 18, 2020. Glen was born April 22, 1929 in St. Petersburg, FL to Muriel (McClain) and Clyde J. Keys. He attended St. Petersburg High School and graduated from Georgia Military Academy. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Benning, GA and Alaska. After returning to St. Petersburg to work for his father, a general contractor and concrete producer, he met and married Martha Southern, his beloved wife of 61 years. They married in 1958 and in 1960 they moved to Tarpon Springs, FL and started Rich-E-Mix, a concrete company in Elfers, FL with only one mixer. In 1979 he founded Glenmar, which was later renamed Keys Concrete Industries. It grew to five plants in Pasco, Pinellas and Hillsborough. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Tarpon Springs, where he served as a trustee and on several building committees. Along with Marty and their three teenagers, he hosted large youth events at his home. He drove and chaperoned for many youth choir tours and retreats. He was Chairman of the Board for Bay Area Youth for Christ 1972-76. Consistent with his desire to see young people grow in their faith, he was a friend and supporter of Asbury Theological Seminary, CrossRoad Church and Trinity College of FL, where he and Marty received the Service Award. Glen was one of the founding directors of Peoples Bank and Synovus Bank of FL. He was a member of Tarpon Springs Rotary Club and Tarpon Springs Sponsors Club. After his retirement, he became a part time resident of Waynesville, NC. He was an active member of Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Lake Junaluska. He hosted a weekly men’s Bible study.  He loved adventure. He was a private pilot. He impressed Marty by flying her over Tampa Bay while they were dating.  He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, horseback riding, tennis, snow skiing, motorcycles and traveling, especially by motorhome. He was a caring and loyal friend to many. His greatest passion was his family. Glen is survived by his wife Marty, his daughters Sandy Sprague (Gee), Linda Scoggins (Marvin), son Clyde “Jimmy” Keys (Debbie), grandchildren Hannah Douglas (Ben), Martha Wiese, M. Thomas Scoggins (Samantha), Kourtney Ridgeway (TJ), Kalen Goolsby (Chris), Jimmy Keys (Caitlyn) and great grandchildren Harper Douglas, Emery Wiese, Gemma and Vada Scoggins, Raelyn Ridgeway, Addison Goolsby, Clyde, Quinn and Caroline Keys, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Gladys Ogden, brother Clyde Keys and his son, Cary Keys Ogden.

Rev. Jack A. Logan, MDiv ’54, aged 93 , of Bergen, NY, passed away Monday, February 3, 2020, at his home in Bergen. Rev. Logan was born on October 18, 1926, in St. Petersburg , Florida , a son of the late Jelks and Ann E. Zuck Logan . Rev. Logan graduated from Harbor Creek High School, Roberts Wesleyan College and Asbury Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity Degree. He was a pastor at the Bergen 1st Presbyterian Church in Bergen, New York and had served with the Free Methodist Church for 50 years. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II, serving the USNAS Banana River, Fl. He is survived by his wife of 73 years , Kathryn “Katie” (Greenawalt) Logan , whom he married on January 1, 1946; four children, Stephen (Donna) Logan of TN, Connie Logan of Conesus, Keith (Theresa) Logan of MI and Mark (Ruth) Logan of Churchville; 12 grandchildren: Jonathan (Candice) Logan; Jason Logan; Jamie (Wade) Humphries; Allison Nichols; Meredith (Stefan) Bauroth; Nichole (Lt. Col Matthew) Rapp; Melinda Jamis, Melissa Logan; DeWayne (Emily) Logan; Jordan Logan; Tyler (Rebecca) Logan and Elise (Shane) Fraser; 27 great-grandchildren;1 great-great-grandchild; 2 brothers, Herbert (late Sally) Logan of TX and Ronald (Donna) Logan of Ransomville. He was a brother of the late Joyce Neithermer. 

Rev. Dr. Herbert H. Michel, MDiv ’74, aged 72, Pastor Emeritus, Augustus Lutheran Church, died Friday, January 31, 2020, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest. Pastor Michel was born on October 19, 1948, in Munich, Germany, to the late Jakob and Anna (Gabel) Michel. He and his family emigrated to Burholme, Philadelphia in 1951. Pastor Michel graduated from Murrell Dobbins High School, Philadelphia, Asbury University, and Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, KY. Pastor Michel was pastor of Augustus Lutheran Church from 1984 until he retired in 2008. He previously was pastor of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, Olney, and St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Fox Chase. During his retirement, he moved to Breinigsville and served as interim pastor of Ziegels Lutheran Church, Jordon Lutheran Church, and Zion Union Church, Maxatawny, all in the Lehigh Valley.Pastor Michel was a past pres. of the Trappe Historical Soc. and former auditor for Trappe Borough. Pastor Michel is survived by his sister, Anna Marie, wife of the late Hans Steinhofer, Philadelphia, 3 nieces and 1 nephew, 9 great nieces and nephews, and 1 great-great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard, husband of Ursula (Baumann) Michel, Harleysville.

Rev. James Brent Mustoe, MDiv ’79, aged 65, of Lee’s Summit MO, passed away February 6th, 2020. Brent was born in Edina, MO on May 18th, 1954. Growing up Brent worked in the family grocery store, alongside his parents and brother. Together, they enjoyed playing football, basketball, bowling, and tennis. After high school he attended Northeast Missouri State and later transferred to Asbury College where he majored in The Bible. In 1978, he married Karen Lawton. In 1979, he graduated with a Master’s of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary and was later ordained an Elder in the United Methodist Church. Brent served churches in the Missouri Conference of the United Methodist Church for over 30 years. His love for Christ and the Church was evident in his great work ethic and even greater care for the people he served. Brent was a beloved pastor and friend and would never pass up the opportunity to tell a good story. He enjoyed watching football, playing on church softball teams, and going to the movies. In 2002, he married Mary Ann Beise and enjoyed 17 happy years of marriage together. His greatest joy in life was being with his wife, two children, and four grandchildren. He taught his family to serve the church and love God and that is his greatest legacy. He was preceded in death by his father Launce Mustoe Sr. and Rebecca Mustoe (Stutsman). He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Mustoe, his son Adam and wife Sarah, their children Aaron and Betsy, his daughter Kelly and husband Doug Johnston and their children, James and Meradith, his brother Launce Mustoe Jr. and wife Linda, their sons Launce Mustoe the 3rd (Trae) and his wife Maranda and their son, Winston, Nicholas Mustoe and his wife Megan.

Dr. Joe P. Peabody, DMin ’80, aged 76, passed away on January 27 leaving to mourn family and friends. He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Walton Peabody and Louise Peabody of Decatur; his wife Nancy Anne Cantrell; his sons, Joe (Allison) of Locust Grove and Andy of Conyers; his grandsons, Parker and Ashton; his brothers, Walton Henry (Jackie), Eddie (Karla) and John (Kay); and his sister-in-law Betty Howell. He was also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.

Josie Ann Day Summers, Masters in Religious Education ’57, aged 86, of Brookhaven, MS, passed from this life on Thursday, February 20, 2020, in Ooltewah TN. She was born in Baker, Louisiana on December 17, 1933 to Eldred Day and Dessie King Day. She attended LSU and went on to Asbury Seminary for a Masters of Religious Education. Josie attended the Methodist Protestant Church and served as a missionary, teaching in an Indian Reservation in Farmington, NM and also for 5 years in what is now Belize, Central America. Josie came to Brookhaven to teach at Whitworth College. She met M.L. Summers and they married in 1967, then they made their home in the Mt. Moriah Community. Preceding her in death was her parents, Eldred and Dessie Day. Josie is survived by her sister, Marlene Day Renfroe of Brandon, MS; her stepchildren, Janet Summers Bentley and Larry of Princeton, TX and Randy Summers and Kathy of Harrison TN; grandchildren, Andrew Bentley and wife Sarah, William Bentley, Ruth Bentley and Elizabeth Bentley of TX, Katie Rickard and husband Phinehas, and Zachary Summers of TN. She also leaves behind a loving extended family and friends.

Dr. J Douglas Williams, MDiv ’66 & DMin ’87, aged 80, passed away February 05, 2020.  Dr. J. Douglas Williams, Ret. Col., age 80, a loving husband, father, brother and wonderful grandfather “Papa” who loved Jesus and went to His mansions on February 5, 2020. Doug and Nelda meet at a Methodist Youth Camp Relay. A short courtship led to the wedding of two young teenagers that lasted 63 years. Doug was born in Jackson, MS, where he was called to preach as a teenager and just knew that was God’s calling for his life. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Huntington College, Montgomery, AL in 1963, Master’s degree of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary School, Wilmore, KY in 1966 and Doctrine of Ministry from Asbury Theological Seminary School, Wilmore, KY in 1987. Doug pastored churches in Ohio, Kentucky, Alabama and Florida for sixty-two years. Dr. Williams served with his wife by his side as a district superintendent for the Alabama/West Florida Conference. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Nelda and daughter, Racheal Leigh Williams. Survivors include his sister, Betty (Sonny) Lockhart; one son, James Skip (Myra) Williams of Daphne, AL; daughter, Ora D. Williams Johnson of Robertsdale, AL ; seven-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Sarah (Michael) Byrd, Katie (Greg) Williams, Jamie ( Anthony) Powell, Zoe Grace Williams, Douglas Johnson, Thomas (Kayln) Johnson and Ashley Stewart; great grandchildren, Lauryn, Taylor and John Michael Byrd, Christian Williams, Bentley and Joshua Stewart; other relatives and many friends.

    Remembering Doug Williams with deep gratitude. He was an exceptional friend during our seminary days long ago.
