Sail Away with Me-Alumni Cruise
by Sandra Blumanhourst, Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore Campus, Alumni Office
Styx has a song about sailing away. In it, the band sings about searching “for tomorrow on every shore.” In a year, Asbury Theological Seminary Alumni and Friends will be setting sail to voyage through Paul’s 2nd and 3rd missionary journeys. Our trip will be one of searching for the past on every shore. We will walk through the Grotto of the Apocalypse and the caves where the exiled Apostle John lived and wrote the book of Revelation. We will visit Hadrian and Domitian’s temples where Paul witnessed. In Thessalonika we will see the places where Paul was explained the scriptures and proved “that it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and to rise from the dead” (Acts 17:3). We will see Philippi, where Paul spoke with Lydia, whose heart was opened by the Lord (Acts 16:13-15). These are just a taste of what we will explore together. Dr. Maxie Dunnam, former President of Asbury Theological Seminary, will be our guest speaker during our 10-day journey together.
The cruise includes luxury accommodations and gourmet dining aboard an intimate cruise ship (max 694 guests). If you have not made plans to sail with us, it is not too late. Purchase your all-inclusive boarding pass starting at $3,398 per person. Further information is available at Asbury Alumni Cruise 2014, including the cruise brochure. To register, click this link to go to the registration page. There will be an opportunity to include your passport information after submitting the registration form. You can also print and fill out the registration form in the brochure and mail it to EOT, PO Box 6098, Lakeland, FL 33807. Registration payments can be sent to that address as well.
One of my favorite lines by Styx is, “I look to the sea, Reflections in the waves spark my memory.” My prayer for the 2014 Asbury Alumni and Friends Cruise is that as we board the Azamara Advantage, our memories will be sparked of the passages of Scripture we have read and studied from these lands, that being in the locations of Paul will open our eyes to the texts in profound ways, and God will meet with us as the body of Christ sets sail for ten unforgettable days.
Please contact the alumni office at alumni@asburyseminary.edu or 1-866-ATS-ALUM if you have any questions about the trip.
