Dr. Jacqueline Smith

Dean of the School of Counseling Associate Professor of Counselor Education

Dr. Smith not only has many years of administrative leadership experience but also 30 years of experience in community mental health counseling, including eight years of private practice. Her scholarly interests include counseling ethnic/racial minority groups; religion and spirituality in counseling; group work; professional identity development and gatekeeping, and counselor training and supervision. Dr. Smith also currently serves on the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) board. She has published a variety of scholarly works with her most recent being a chapter titled “Diagnosis Issues with African Americans” in African Americans and Mental Health published in 2021. She also served on the CACREP Board of Directors from 2017-2022.
