Rev. Doyle C. Dennings ( M. Div., 1968), 73, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 24, 2016. Cremation has taken place. Doyle was born on April 14, 1943 in Gladwin to Clayton and Viola (Buzzell). Dennings was a resident of the Flint area since 1978. He married to Margaret Van Wagner on June 7, 1963. Rev. Dennings attended Spring Arbor College, earned his Bachelors from Roberts Wesleyan College then earned his Masters in Divinity from Asbury Seminary. He pastored churches in Snover-Laing, Fenton, Midland, Mount Morris, and Flushing. Rev. Dennings served as Finance Director for Eastern Michigan Free Methodist Conference and as Executive Director at Covenant Hills Camp. He enjoyed serving people. Surviving him are his wife Margaret, his children James (Amelia) Dennings of Montrose, Mary Anne (Lawrence) Kilbourn of Flushing, Rebecca Sue (Martin) Phillips of Flint, Ruth Ann (Dane) Spencer of Alton, IL, Philip (Alicia) Dennings of North Branch, Susanna (Curtis) Peterson of Otisville, his 16 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
Rev. Peter R. Falbo (M. Div., 1970), 73, passed away in his home on April 30, 2016. Born in Phoenix, Ariz., he was the son of the late Peter Falbo and Virginia “Dede” Falbo. He is survived by his wife, Susan; sister, Rae Chornenky; daughter, Catherine Falbo; son, Brian Falbo (Jenn); stepson, Brian Morris (Maile); stepdaughter, Sarah Morris (Chris); six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Raised in Phoenix, Ariz., Pete graduated from Arizona State University before attending Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky. A dedicated and progressive pastor, Pete served the United Methodist Church in various churches in Southern California for 37 years before retiring in 2007. After moving to Glen Allen, Va., Pete continued to work part-time with churches that needed interim pastoral leadership. In his years of ministry, he enjoyed being up to date in contemporary New Testament and Jesus scholarship. An avid golfer and sports enthusiast, Pete could be found on the golf course in nearly all kinds of weather, and following sports on TV when he wasn’t at church or on the golf course.
Dr. Sarah H. Gordon (M. RE., 1948), 92, died peacefully at Goodwin House Alexandria on Sunday, August 16, 2015 . Born in Lumberton NC, the love of Christ inspired her lifelong efforts to improve conditions for migrant workers and low-income adults via literacy programs at home and abroad.
Rev. Walter C. Hughley, (M. Div., 1969), 72, went to his Heavenly home Thursday, May 5, 2016. Walter was born October 28, 1943 in Meridian, MS to Walter Henderson and Evelyn Camp Hughley. Walter graduated from Meridian High School in 1961, and continued his education at Asbury College, Kentucky, earning his B.A. degree in 1965. He received his Master of Divinity degree in 1969 from Asbury Seminary. During his many years of ministry, Walter reached and influenced many lives. He participated in several mission trips, and taught in several colleges, including teaching Bible classes at East MS Community College-Scooba and classes at Wesley Seminary in Jackson. He loved serving his Lord, sharing his faith, and fellowshipping, creating new friends far and near. Walter received great joy from the countless number of Bible studies he led over his ministerial career. Survivors are his wife, Janis Floyd Hughley; sons, David Andrew Hughley of Virginia and Robert M. Cain of Arkansas; daughter, Sharon H. Tanner of Alabama; brother, David Henderson Hughley of Georgia and 7 grandchildren.
E. Walter Lamie Jr., (M.Div. 1969), 73, died unexpectedly on April 23, 2016. Walt is survived by his beloved wife Susan; his son, Anthony, and wife Meena Friscia; grandchildren, Donovan, Kearsten, and Amiya; his loving in-laws, Katherine, Richard (Maureen), and Michael Otto; and stepmother Arlene Lamie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brigadier E. Walter, and Dorothy Mary Lamie; along with his brother, Ronald; and father-in-law, Leo Otto. Walt was born in Portland, Maine. He graduated from Asbury Seminary in Kentucky with a Masters in Divinity. In 1973, he moved to Jacksonville, Florida and accepted a position as a Director of the U.S.O. He went on to work for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, where he worked for 35 years until retirement. Walt was a man of deep faith, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was active and cared deeply for his community. Walt’s faith in Jesus was genuine, and he loved the Lord with his whole heart.
