SENIOR PASTOR AT A FORMER UMC CHURCH IN ORANGEVALE, CA

Pastor Mike Goodyear is hoping to hand over the pastorate of a small congregation with great potential to grow to a young pastor. See his note below!
8999 Greenback Lane in Orangevale, California.
We left the UMC over 2 decades ago. Trying to find a church building in the area has been a challenge.
We had 250 when we left the UM building and did fine renting for 7 years, but we really wanted our own facility.
We spent about 5 years going hither and yon and it was tough on our families and then COVID hit. Not meeting for 2 years really hurt us. We had purchased a mansion on a busy street in town. We have met there for the last 1.5 years. The result of moving around like we did hurt us quite a bit. By the time we were ready to move in (it took 5 years to refurbish it and bring it up to code), most of our young families and leaders had left. I am 75 now and we desperately need a younger pastor with family and energy. We also have a great history in mission outreach. Every couple of years we would take a team of 15 to 20 to various places in the world. In the early years, we did a lot of construction work but for the last 20 years we have focused on medical teams going to Bangladesh, Cambodia and Thailand, and Iraq.
Currently, we average about 45 on Sunday. We manage to pay our bills, keep me as a pastor and even put some money away. The church is excited about our future. We are ready to grow again. When my wife and I came here 40 years ago – it was a small congregation of 50, mostly retired.  We were able to grow to about 300 with 3 full-time staff and a couple of part-timers. Now we are about the same as it was when we started. We’ve got a great facility on the main road (about 4,500 cars a day pass by) .
I am hoping that we can join the new evangelical version of Methodism when all the dust settles. Our web site is hispathway.org – and we broadcast every Sunday at 10:30 PST, on Facebook.
For more information or to apply, email mgoodyear@hispathway.org.
