What’s New at Asbury Church Planting?
Stories of Church Multiplication
The Center for Church Multiplication supports church multiplication throughout the U.S. through funding, coaching and prayer. We asked our grant recipients about their love for church planting, opportunities in church planting, and how they connect with their communities. Hear Annie’s story in the video below.
Church Multiplication Principles
The Center for Church Multiplication sponsors Global Gatherings around the world where church planters share ideas and learn from each other. Each month we highlight a church multiplication principle we heard at a Global Gathering or from a church planting team in the U.S. Here’s this month’s principle:
Pride doesn’t pray. Perhaps we don’t spend time with God in adoration, confession, praise, thanksgiving, and intercession because we don’t think that is the real answer to the needs of our community and church. We prioritize spending time problem-solving and strategizing without truly prioritizing seeking God for his guidance, forgiveness, and power. Pride doesn’t pray. Prayer begins with humbly laying our plans at God’s feet and saying, “What do you want for your church?” (source: Pray the Bay Initiative at Experience Church, San Francisco).

CCM Resource Recommendation
In 1992, a startling statistic was published in a research study done about church planters serving among the unreached: “The most effective church planters average four hours and fifteen minutes more in prayer per week than their less effective colleagues” (Grady: 366). A few years later, in his book Church Planting Movements, Dr. David Garrison reported that every church-planting movement he researched was preceded by earnest prayer. Every. Single. Movement.
Today, in San Francisco, the prayer ministry of Experience Church has expanded into a prayer movement for the Bay Area called Pray the Bay. Their website includes a rich resource library of prayer guides and ideas. Download one of their guides and consider who you could invite to join you in earnest prayer for your city or community.
Don’t know how to start? Simply pray through scripture. Find a passage of scripture and let God’s word guide your prayers. A Psalm or one of the Apostle Paul’s prayers in Ephesians, Philippians or Colossians is a great place to start. Pray the Word as you pray for your city. Earnest prayer precedes all church-planting movements.
