Debt Management Tools & Loan Resources

National Student Loan Database System (NSLDS)

  • You can manage your student loan debt by accessing your federal student loan records through the National Student Loan Database System(NSLDS). This system tracks all federal student loans you have on record from any institution within the U.S.

Deferment

  • If you meet the eligibility requirements, your lender may grant you a deferment which temporarily postpones your loan repayment for a specific period of time. The most common types of deferments are enrolled in school at least half time, economic hardship, unemployment and military service deferments. Contact your lender(s) for details and eligibility requirements.
  • To keep my student loans (past and present) in deferment:
  • Continue to enroll at least at half-time status (5 credits per semester).
  • Asbury Seminary regularly transmits enrollment information to the National Student Clearinghouse.
  • If your lender uses the Clearinghouse to verify enrollments, you will usually not need to send in a paper form. Your lender can tell you if they participate with the Clearinghouse and whether or not they require a paper form.

Forbearance

  • Your lender may grant you a forbearance, which also temporarily postpones your loan repayment for a specific period of time, if you meet the eligibility requirements. The most common types of forbearance are medical internship, Department of Defense, AmeriCorps and student loan debt-to-income ratio. Contact your lender(s) for details and eligibility requirements.

Updating contact information

  • It is important to keep your contact information updated with both the Seminary and your lender(s). This will ensure receipt of important correspondence in a timely manner.
  • To change your address:
  • Log on to Portal
  • Go to “My Profile”
  • “Request Change”

It may take a few days for the address update to process

Office of the Ombudsman

  • The purpose of the Ombudsman is to assist student borrowers who have tried through normal customer service offices to resolve a student loan problem and have not been successful. The Ombudsman will research the student’s complaint and serve as a liaison between the lender and student. You can contact the Office of the Ombudsman using any of the following methods:

  • Toll Free Telephone: 1.877.557.2575
