Entitled, “New Cities, New Jerusalems: Emerging Patterns of Christian Identity in Urban East Africa,” the Consultation opens with a lecture by Emeritus Professor Paul Gifford of the Center for Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. The heart of the Consultation then consists of two days of intensive work by international, interdisciplinary teams of scholars and practitioners who will examine five case studies on current renewal movements in Nairobi (Kenya), Kampala (Uganda), and Bunia (Democratic Republic of Congo).

Seedbed Publishing has entered an agreement to publish Dr. Guy Chmieleski’s second book, Campus gods: Exposing the Idols that Can Derail Your Present and Destroy Your Future. Following on the heels of his first book, Shaping Their Future: Mentoring College Students Through Their Formative Years, aimed at those who would mentor college students, this next book is written for the students themselves.

The B. L. Fisher Library at Asbury Theological Seminary is pleased to announce it has recently acquired the Bennis Collection, an Irish Methodist archive of original letters to and from Eliza Bennis.

Asbury Theological Seminary will create the “Office of Work and Economics in the Wesleyan Tradition” with a grant of $102,500 from the Kern Family Foundation. It will work across each department and school in the Seminary to advocate for faith, work and economics as an integral framing of Christian influence in society…

Dr. Fred Long, Professor of New Testament, has had his essay entitled “Roman Imperial Rule under the Authority of Jupiter-Zeus: Political-Religious Contexts and the Interpretation of ‘the Ruler of the Authority of the Air’ in Ephesians 2:2” published in The Language of the New Testament: Context, History and Development.

Estonia is a state in the Baltic region of Northern Europe, and Tallin is both the capitol and largest city. There are currently 1.29 million people living in the former Soviet Republic. And while it ranks high in terms of economic and political freedom and education, the World Bank lists it as one of the lowest in religiosity. 75.5 percent of the population claim to be without religion. Only 16 percent profess a belief in God.
