Weddings at Asbury Donates Dream Wedding
Jake and Brittany Wimberly got married after work on a Friday afternoon when their son was 10 months old. Although they never had a real wedding, Brittany kept hoping, pinning her dreams to her Pinterest board. Weddings at Asbury heard their story and decided to donate a wedding package. On April 28, 2018, Brittany will walk down the aisle at her “one day wedding.”
“We are so excited to celebrate with Jake and Brittany and shower them with love,” Christina Embree, Wedding & Event Coordinator with Weddings at Asbury, said. “Throughout April, we will be following their wedding journey on our blog. We are so blessed to be able to celebrate their marriage, their family and their life together here at Weddings at Asbury!”
Jake and Brittany experienced God’s redeeming grace while she was expecting John David. They rekindled their friendship with each other and restored their sexual purity. The couple knew they were going to get married, but weren’t yet engaged.
In 2012, Brittany texted Jake: “Do you want to get married tomorrow?”
Normally not a risk-taker, Jake said yes, and the two tied the knot at the courthouse, without pictures or fanfare.
Weddings at Asbury used Brittany’s Pinterest board to help plan the perfect day for them. In addition to donating the McKenna wedding chapel, a wedding director, a sound operator and all the included décor, they also partnering with these preferred vendors:
- Flowers and Decor – Rachel Wolfe of Rachel’s Rose Garden in Wilmore
- Wedding Cake – The Sweet Shoppe by Beth Ray
- Reception Catering – Pioneer Catering, Kermic Thomas and John Hall
- Photography – Lisa Weaver Swartz Photography
Jake is an M.Div. student at Asbury Theological Seminary and a youth pastor at Journey Church, a non-denominational congregation, in Versailles. After graduation, he plans to become a U.S. Navy Chaplain. Brittany is the director of the Wilmore Day Care.

Exciting News from Zambia!
Our alum and Wesleyan Church national superintendent Bishop Alfred Kalembo, MDiv 2002, DMin 2009, says leaders must use their positions to promote love, peace, and unity. Receiving assorted education and health items worth K90,000 donated to his church by the Institute of Leadership in Southern Africa (ILISA) in Choma, Bishop Kalembo said leaders can only be proud of themselves if they promote love, peace, and unity because they are the pillars of growth. “Leaders must use their positions to promote love, peace, and unity and we need to also realize that we are one hence the need to share the little we have with the less privileged in society,” Bishop Kalembo said. He thanked ILISA for showing love through its continued support of education and health programs of the church for the marginalized in communities as well as supplementing government efforts to improve people’s livelihood. Bishop Kalembo said the gesture had greater impact in changing lives of the poor in communities who felt left out. And ILISA executive director Muumbe Kalembo, Bishop Kalembo’s wife, said donations of such nature were an effective tool to the growth of the church and evangelism in communities. “As ILISA, we have a passion for the vulnerable children and currently we are sponsoring school children from Kanyama in Lusaka and also helping New Day Orphanage in Choma with assorted items such as crutches, wheelchairs and medical examination chairs,” said Muumbe.

The Alumni Office is Moving!
Our Alumni Office has been doing so much growing and building, that we have run out of room! So, in an effort to serve you better, our mighty team of three (Tammy, Patricia, and Hannah) are excited to move across campus to the first floor of the Crary-McPheeters Building into our very own office suite! We will still be easily accessible to those who are most important to us – our alumni family. This move is set to take place during the first two weeks of June, and we are so excited to be in our new, larger space! Once we have gotten moved and settled in, we will have a full spread article about our new office with pictures and more! Come see us soon!
