Fresh Wind Blowing: Living in God’s New Pentecost by Steve Harper (1973, MDiv)
A fresh wind of God’s Spirit is blowing on the earth today, and as in times past, God is inviting us to raise our sails and move forward with the power and direction that reflects our commitment to God’s will. Some are calling it “a new Pentecost,” but whatever name is given, we are living in a time when we have an opportunity to connect with God’s renewing work. One specific manifestation of this movement is “the new monasticism.” This book is an invitation to explore it and embrace the dynamics it contains.

The Bible Says…How Good is the Good Book? by Dr. Larry R. Kalajainen (1972, MDiv)
How can people holding diametrically opposing views on contemporary issues claim that the Bible supports their position? What does it mean to claim that the Bible says or teaches something? Whose interpretation is right? If you’ve felt confused about the Bible’s role or authority in such controversies, this book may help. The author draws on his more than forty years of pastoral ministry and seminary teaching experience to examine what the Bible is, how it came to be a sacred text for Jews and Christians, what kind of authority it has, and how that authority is used or misused. He argues for understanding of the Bible as a community product, and demonstrates how the terms “the Bible” and “the Word of God” may be related in constructive rather than destructive ways. The book may be purchased from the Publisher Wipf & Stock (Cascade Books) or Amazon in either paperback or e-book.

Toward a Pentecostal Theology of Religions: Encountering Cornelius Today by Tony Richie (2002, DMin)
Christian theology of religions is a pressing topic of contemporary lived reality. Toward a Pentecostal Theology of Religions: Encountering Cornelius Today distinctively draws on a theological methodology of Spirit-gifted and Spirit-attuned reflection and reasoning in addressing this critical issue from a Wesleyan-Pentecostal perspective. Religiously motivated violence is precipitating an international security crisis. Even in relatively peaceful environs, globalization has contributed to the unprecedented co-existence in close proximity of peoples of cultural diversity and religious plurality. In particular, global Pentecostalism blends diverse social, racial, economic, and national groups together with diverse religious and intellectual traditions. Such complexities point to a need for an intentional and articulate Pentecostal theology of religions as a consistent and coherent guide for living and ministering in a world of multiple religious faiths. The conversation of this book is framed by the transformative encounter of the Jewish Christian apostle, Peter, and the Gentile pagan convert, Cornelius (Acts 10). It confronts straightforwardly the reality of non-Christian religions and calls for a substantive Pentecostal response. It rejects the relativistic ideology of religious pluralism. More than that, drawing from Classical Pentecostal heritage and engaging leading contemporary theologians it presents a viable alternative to pluralistic philosophy. The result is a distinctively Pentecostal theology of religions marked by high Christology and robust pneumatology with a strong sense of ecclesial mission through evangelism and dialogue. Awake, My Soul – Devotional Readings in Colossians by G. Roger Schoenhals (1964, BD)
Schoenhals recently published his 11th electronic devotional book. Awake, My Soul is a series of 102 meditations on the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Colossians. In light of the contemporary emphasis on inclusiveness, tolerance, and political correctness, Colossians boldly declares the pre-eminence of Christ. He is not one of many options, but the only way to forgiveness, cleansing, and eternal life. Roger and his wife, Sandy, live “off the grid” in Icicle Canyon near Leavenworth, WA. You can purchase your Kindle copy from Amazon or your Nook copy from Barnes & Noble.
