Sow for a Great Awakening on Election Day

Published Date: September 1, 2016
As our nation continues its march toward Tuesday, November 8, and the election of our next President, we believe the Holy Spirit is calling the people of God to gather on behalf of our country and the generations to come to sow for a great awakening.

Rather than a call to a particular kind of partisan activity or political action, we hear the Lord calling us to a particular kind of prayer. As essential as it is to have godly leaders in our government, we must acknowledge that our future does not reside in the hands of government. Our future and the welfare of the generations to come rests in the hands of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the one about whom it has been written, “And the government will be upon his shoulders.”

Indeed we will pray for our elected leaders, but the focus of our praying will be on a larger scale and toward a  further horizon. We will be crying out to God on behalf of a nation whose only hope for human flourishing and eternal life is a broad scale awakening to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Call to Sow

The New Room Network is inviting any and all who are willing and able to band together for a day of awakening prayer on behalf of the men, women and children of the United States of America. This is not about the outcome of an election, but rather, we will be praying for an unprecedented expansion of the “Elect” of God in the years ahead. In short, we will band together in humble travailing prayer for a great awakening to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our land.

The Particulars

There are two important ways to be part of this work. First is the call for local churches to open their doors to provide sanctuary for any and all persons who would set aside time for prayer at any point throughout the day of Tuesday, November 8, from 6am until 6pm. Additionally, it would be ideal to hold a short service of scripture and prayer at a specified time during the noon hour.

Second, we would like to extend an open invitation to join a group of us who will meet at noon at the corner of 16th and Mt. Pleasant Streets NW, in Washington, D.C., for a gathering of  awakening prayer. Why here? This is the site not of a majestic national monument, but rather of a marker in the Kingdom of God. It is the site of a historic horse and rider statue, known as the fifteenth horseman to Washington, Francis Asbury. Watch a short video here to learn more about the site.

If you would like to join either of these initiatives, please register your intentions at seedbed.com/awakening. We will follow up with more information and instruction in the weeks leading up to the day.

The New Room Network will be providing assistance for these prayer gatherings in the form of a Guide to Awakening Prayer which will be made available as a downloadable PDF.

Adoniram Judson famously said, “Our Future is as bright as the promises of God.” May we lay hold of those promises for the glory of God and the advance of his Kingdom.

  1. We will opening our sanctuaries for a day of prayer, asking the Lord for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our nation on Nov. 8th, 2016.

Hoping many are gathered in joyful obedience to the Lord’s call to pray, looking to the great promise: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

  2. Yeah, it is an important move as we approach the crucial moments of major decision for USA. We cannot afford to face presidential election without God’s insight and awakening of the Holy Spirit. Let the opening of Sanctuaries match the humble steps of God fearing souls casting down their crowns in humble adoration and in accordance to 2Chronicles 7:14, may we find favor from God, and yes- heal the Land of USA.
