Asbury University Celebrates 50th Anniversary of 1970 Revival
Published Date: January 31, 2020
Asbury University will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the revival that shook their school and their community in 1970 beginning on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at 4p.m. The event kicks off in Hughes Auditorium.
What began as a normal Chapel service became a fire that spread across the nation, changing lives around the world.
This divine moment did not come about through human scheduling or preaching. Instead, it came as people opened themselves to the living God and received forgiveness and cleansing which God alone can give. The change wrought in them was and is too great to keep secret. It must be shared. Thus one man’s divine moment becomes the gateway through which others may come to know the same experience. (One Divine Moment, edited by Robert E. Coleman and David J. Gyertson)
From Asbury University’s Advancement Office:
“We, at Asbury University, have the great privilege of celebrating this outpouring of God’s Spirit. We will hear stories, watch documentaries, worship and pray together, thanking God for His goodness, mercy and great love towards us. If you are interested in joining us, please come. Our programs are open to the public and all are invited. With a campus full of students, however, housing will not be available.
Join us as we worship and fellowship together.”

In 1995 I celebrated the 25th anniversary with you as I worked on my ATS dissertation, The Significance of the Asbury Revival of 1970 for Some Aspects of the Spiritual Lives of the Participants. When I was a student at Asbury College in 1973-75, I was able to recognize students still on campus who had been a part of the revival, just by the glow on their faces. Hughes Auditorium still housed a sense of awe. My enthusiasm for the subject has not waned. I am praying that God will do it again. May you all experience at least a taste of His glorious Presence as you celebrate!
