Dr. David Gyertson- New Dean of the Beeson International Center!
Dr. David Gyertson, New Dean of the Beeson International Center for Biblical Preaching and Church Leadership for Asbury Theological Seminary
Dr. David Gyertson will assume the position of Associate Provost and Dean of the Beeson International Center for Biblical Preaching and Church Leadership, effective August 12, 2015 at Asbury Theological Seminary. Dr. Gyertson is a very well known speaker and writer in the areas of Christian leadership, theology, applied theology, biblical studies, history, and higher education/leadership studies. Gyertson has served as the president of three evangelical universities, including Asbury University, and served previously at the Seminary.

In addition to Gyertson’s roles as consultant, executive coach, television host and producer, he is an ordained minister with extensive pastoral experience and pastoral leadership training experience. Dr. Gyertson states, “We are living in challenging days with unprecedented opportunities for the Gospel of wholeness and holiness. The hunger for a whole Gospel that transforms minds, purifies hearts, and empowers hands for sacrificial, compassionate service is intensifying. Asbury Theological Seminary, with its uncompromising commitments to those Wesleyan distinctives, is poised to be a significant seedbed for the insights, motives, and skills that times like these demand. I am humbled to help guide the mission of the Beeson International Center for Biblical Preaching and Church Leadership as it contributes to the Seminary’s “to serve the present age” vision for today and the future.”
Gyertson has held senior leadership positions in religious, charitable and business environments, including international and cross-cultural settings. Dr. Gyertson will lead Asbury Seminary’s efforts at positioning the Beeson International Center for continued growth as it moves toward 2023 by exploring possible collaborations and synergies with the School of Practical Theology, and investigating and enhancing collaborative initiatives with other areas of the institution.

David Gyertson was born in Toronto, Canada. He holds a Ph.D. from Michigan State University with a concentration in higher education administration and management. His undergraduate education (Spring Arbor University) is in Philosophy, Psychology, and Religion, and Master’s work (Michigan State University and the University of Toronto) is in student personnel administration, communications, and comparative higher education. David’s wife, Nancy, is a retired elementary school teacher. David and Nancy have one daughter, Andrea, and two grandchildren, Emma and Justin.
Congratulations Dr. Gyertson on returning to Asbury. I recall fondly your teaching a class on Teaching the Bible to Adults at ATS during the early 1980s. Your enthusiasm and energy for teaching was contagious. Again, welcome back.
