Dr. David Watson: Together in Mission
Dear Alumni,
Happy New Year! I pray this Christmastide has offered you moments of rest, renewal, and holy wonder. The incarnation reminds us that God has drawn near—taking on flesh, dwelling among us, and giving Himself fully for our salvation. When we reflect on this miracle, our hearts can’t help but rise in praise.
Many of you joined us for our Advent Vespers service in December, and what a glorious service it was. The music, Scripture readings, and the beauty of our worship reminded us again of God’s faithfulness. I’m grateful to Rev. Danny Key, the Seminary Singers, our chapel team, and all who helped create such a meaningful evening.
You may know that our long-standing approval with the United Methodist Church’s University Senate is currently in its regular review cycle. We value our historic relationship with the UMC and our UMC students, faculty, staff, and alumni. We have submitted all required materials and articulated clearly and graciously where our commitments align and where they differ. Whatever the outcome, we remain anchored in biblical fidelity and confident that God will continue to lead Asbury Seminary forward in faith and hope.
As we step into 2026, I’m filled with gratitude for each of you. The work God has entrusted to this Seminary continues to bear fruit through your ministries, your leadership, and your witness across the globe. The year ahead will no doubt bring challenges and opportunities, but none of them take our Lord by surprise. Let us continue to seek His wisdom, His heart, and His guidance in all things.
Will you join me in praying that our community—faculty, staff, students, trustees, and alumni—will follow the Spirit with humility, courage, and joy? I’m confident that as we walk together in mission, God will do more than we can ask or imagine.
May the peace of Christ keep you and bless you in this holy season.
Yours in Christ,
David F. Watson
