Rev. Carroll E. Brentlinger, B.Div. 1956, age 96, of Rome, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday morning, May 26, 2017.  Pastor Brentlinger was born on September 4, 1920 in Mycena, New York, a son of the late Emmitt C. and Jessie (Umbaugh) Brentlinger.  He joined the Air Force in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1945.  On February 14, 1943, he married Mary (Block) and together they shared 57 years of marriage until her passing on March 18, 2000.  He graduated from Houghton College with a Bachelor’s degree in 1949; a Master’s Degree from Columbia Bible School in 1950 and a Master of Divinity from Asbury Seminary in 1956.  He was ordained as a minister of the Wesleyan Church in 1950.  Pastor Brentlinger was a minister of the Gospel for over 52 years.  He pastored churches in Florida, Canada, Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania.  He served as a missionary in Haiti 1950-1953 and Jamaica from 1968-1970.  His last pastorate was the Herrickville Wesleyan and North Rome Wesleyan Churches 1970-1984. In addition he also served as an interim pastor at the West Warren Congregational church for three years following his retirement.  He had a desire that our children be taught about the Lord daily.  This led to his helping to establish the North Rome Christian School.  He was predeceased by his wife, Mary, his father, mother, sister, and brother.  


Dr. Japheth Osia Jaoko, M.A. 1999, 46, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017 at Baptist Health in Lexington, Kentucky.  Jaoko was born in Nairobi, Kenya, the son of the late Samuel Jaoko and Mary Jaoko nee Oduol and was the son-in-law to the late Benson A. Odindo and Bernadette Assisi Aor.  He attended Pan Africa Christian University, Asbury Theological Seminary and earned his PhD from University of Texas at Arlington in 2005.  Jaoko was a Social Work Professor at Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Kentucky.  He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Marcela Adikiny Jaoko nee Odindo, his children, Jabali Osia Jaoko, Zawadi Adikiny Jaoko. Jaoko was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings the late Frank & Philomena Jaoko, the late Fred Jaoko and the late Alice Omondi.

    I am incredibly saddened to hear this, and I am sorry to be so late to know about Jaoko’s passing. I attended Asbury with him around ‘97 to ‘99. He was the sweetest and kindest soul. My heart grieves today, yet I also have great hope and a sense of wonder of how he was welcomed by his Savior. Prayers for & love to his family.
