On the Lighter Side
By Dr. Charles Killian
During my days as a pastor, I occasionally had some difficulty with stewardship issues. Most every church has these issues. They are often cumbersome and tricky. Issues such as these call for a variety of approaches. Sometimes we just give up on the enterprise, and at times members are lost.
On the lighter side of it all, I am reminded of a story—a story about an Irishman, a Scotsman and an Englishman.
It seems that all three of them were at a restaurant and ordered soup. The Englishman found a fly in his soup, took his spoon and discretely lifted the fly out of the bowl and placed it on the saucer.
The Irishman also found a fly in his soup. He lifted the bowl up to his mouth and blew the fly away, along with a substantial amount of the soup, which was now dripping down the opposite wall.
The Scotsman found a fly in his soup, too. He reached down with his fingers, picked the fly up, held it about an inch over the bowl, and said, “Now spit it out, all of it!”
Different approaches, for sure, but the issue was resolved!
Thanks for the laugh.
