The Shepherd’s Fund: Security for Your Spouse
There are many things we don’t like to think about, let alone talk about. But, for our retired alumni, the following questions can be vitally important to address: What will happen to me and to my spouse if I fall ill? Will my spouse be able to handle the financial burden of final expenses when I pass into glory?
Many of our alumni are very sacrificial when it comes to the vocation to which God has called them. Many of them never get the chance to build up any earthly wealth or invest into a 401k like those who work in other vocations. Unfortunately, we often find that ministry takes precedence so much, that the parsonage can be fraught with poverty if we’re being honest. But, God is always faithful to help us through those lean times of sacrifice for the cause of the gospel.
One of the ways He has chosen to provide for our retired alumni is through the Shepherd’s Fund. And, word is getting out that it is legitimate. People are getting needs met which they would not have been able to meet otherwise. So far, we have helped relieve retired alumni and their spouses of over 1.5 million dollars of medical bills, home modifications, and medically related expenses over the past several years. But we still have much, much more money to give!
DID YOU KNOW that the Shepherd’s Fund is available for your spouse’s needs as well and will cover those needs even after you have passed? If your spouse has current medical needs, s/he is eligible to apply on a separate application from you and can also be approved for up to $10,000 in assistance, which is renewable yearly!
Here’s how you qualify:
- You must be a graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary who has served the church as a vocation.
- You must be in good standing with your denominational/church leaders.
- You or your spouse have medical expenses that are financially difficult to meet.
- You must be retired or retirement age

This is great. Fortunately we are able to handle our medical expenses, but there might be a time when we can’t. Thank you for the safety net.
