MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR DR. DON JOY IS ANNOUNCED

A memorial service for Dr. Don Joy will be held September 19th at 11 a.m. at the Free Methodist Church in Wilmore, Kentucky. The family has invited alumni to attend while keeping in mind the precautions needed to take during this time.

ALUMNUS DR. MATT O’REILLY APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH AT WESLEY BIBLICAL SEMINARY

Alumnus Dr. Matt O’Reilly (MDiv 2009) has been appointed as Director of Research at Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, MS. In this role he will offer leadership in the Doctor of Ministry program at WBS. Matt currently serves as Lead Pastor of Hope Hull United Methodist Church and will continue in his pastoral role while serving as Director of Research.

Earlier this year, Matt published two books. The first is Paul and the Resurrected Body: Social Identity and Ethical Practice (SBL Press). The second is The Letters to the Thessalonians (Seedbed).

Matt also published chapters on “1 Thessalonians” and “2 Thessalonians” in T&T Clark Social Identity Commentary on the New Testament

THE SPRING 2020 (VOL. 75 NO.1) ISSUE OF THE ASBURY JOURNAL IS NOW AVAILABLE

The Asbury Journal publishes scholarly essays and book reviews written from a Wesleyan perspective. The Journal’s authors and audience reflect the global reality of the Christian church, the holistic nature of Wesleyan thought, and the importance of both theory and practice in addressing the current issues of the day. Authors include Wesleyan scholars, scholars of Wesleyanism/Methodism, and scholars writing on issues of theological and theological education importance. ALUMNUS ROBERT “BOB” ZANGGER AWARDED PsyD FROM CALIFORNIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY
Dr. Bob Zangger, class of ’73,  was awarded a doctorate in psychology (PsyD) this year from California Southern University. He gives an update that he has retired from the City of Las Vegas Municipal Court in 2019 and is now an associate pastor with the Las Vegas Church of the Nazarene where he is responsible for the administration/facilitator for the Church of the Nazarene’s Modular Training Program for the Las Vegas area. He also serves on the Arizona District Ministerial Studies Board as the District Modular Studies Director. He and his wife, Shirley, have lived in Las Vegas since the middle of the 1970s. He shares, “Even though the world has not recognized it yet, Las Vegas is truly God’s town.” We send our congrats to Dr. Zangger and wish him many blessings as he continues God’s work in Nevada!
 
ALUMNUS DR. GUENSON CHARLOT APPOINTED PRESIDENT AT EMMAUS UNIVERSITY
We are proud to have received this update from Dr. Charlot, class of ’19, that he has unanimously been appointed as the next president at Emmaus University located in Haiti. He shares that he is “honored” to have been chosen and thankful for his time and education at Asbury. We send huge congratulations to Dr. Charlot and will be in prayer over his continued work for the Kingdom in Haiti. Click here to read the full announcement and article.
