N.T. WRIGHT’S LECTURES WILL BE AVAILABLE UNTIL FEBRUARY!

You likely heard that N.T. Wright came to Asbury the week before Thanksgiving. Those that were able to attend know that he had great things to say. It’s not too late to listen to the recordings! You can find them HERE until February.

NEW BOOK ABOUT FRIENDS OF ASBURY’S MISSION WORK IN CHINA

The recent Xulon Press book by Clinton Stanley Zimmer, “The Pull of China” is about Asbury alum Gerald Zimmer and his wife Sylvia, who served together in China (1936-1948).  Asbury played a pivotal role in their love and desire to be missionaries after E. Stanley Jones spoke at Asbury Seminary.

This book describes in their own words how Gerald and Sylvia Zimmer served as missionaries in the remote area in southwestern China; primarily Guizhou and Hunan. That endeavor required the combined lifelong efforts of numerous missionaries, and was invariably affected by events and decisions that occurred thousands of miles from where the actual ministry was taking place. The task was incomplete when the missionaries were forced to leave, but the foundations for the Church which were laid have stood. Great challenges of cooperation faced the missionaries during the Japanese invasion and Civil War. It also reveals the rich rewards that were obtained by the united efforts of committed Christians who had no timetable for withdrawal, but only an unwavering commitment to work together until the task was accomplished.

The book consists of excerpts from hundreds of letters written to their mothers. One thing that stands out is their emphasis on the importance of prayer and trust in the Lord. They believed that God would use prayers of faith to do His work and urged their mothers and their prayer circles to continue praying for the Chinese people.

You can purchase this book from Xulon Press, Barnes and Noble or Amazon.

REV. JAMES LOFTIN (M.DIV. ’79) WRITES BORN TO SHINE

Book Intro

Text Description automatically generated“God created you with a purpose and capacity to impact the world more than you imagine. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, your words and actions can shine near and far in such a way that lost and hurting people will be transformed by the grace of Jesus Christ.” Using the biblical theme of light, Born to Shine provides more than inspiration and examples of faithful living. It presents practical guidance on how Christ followers and churches can shine more brightly for the good of the world and for God’s glory. The book is a helpful resource for church leaders, classes, and small groups who want to faithfully reflect God’s light and shine in areas with few godly lanterns. God has used these principles and tools to help many families and congregations focus and grow in mission over the past two decades.
