What Can We Do For You?

Published Date: July 3, 2018
We are so proud of our amazing group of alumni, and our greatest joy is to serve you! With an office dedicated to helping you be successful, we want you to be aware of what resources we offer and what opportunities you have to stay connected with us.

Our Office of Alumni operates with the understanding that once you are a part of our Asbury family, you are part of Asbury for Life! In an intentional effort to bringing you the best of Asbury, we are committed to journeying with you through all the stages of your lives and ministries, and we have offerings for every part of that journey.

The first and most essential part of that journey is to keep us up-to-date with your current contact information. As always, our staff is determined to protect your personal information and hold it in the highest confidentiality. We will never release your information to anyone outside our institution without your personal permission, unless required to by law. Keeping your contact information up-to-date with us will help us be able to contact you whenever new resources and opportunities become available to you. Any time you have a change of address, phone number, email address, or anything else, please email us at alumni@asburyseminary.edu, and we will update your record for you. This email address is also where you will want to send any comments, suggestions, updates about your ministry, questions, pleas for help, or even occasional greetings. We love to hear from our alumni, even if it is just to say hi! If we can serve you in any way, you can find our staff there.

The Alumni Link email blast that comes out every month is our best means of communicating with the alumni community at large. Ask your alumni friends if they are receiving the Link. If they are not, let them know that they should contact us at alumni@asburyseminary.edu to be added to the list. This is where we post helpful articles, updates on what is going on at the seminary, new resources, job and ministry opportunities, and all the other things you will want to know about. Next month, you will notice that the email looks very different. Get ready for our new, modern look! Additionally, you can subscribe to receive the Asbury Herald, our print publication, by emailing your request to us.

In an effort to open up multiple avenues of engagement, we also have a facebook page here and a twitter account here if you would like to follow us on social media. We often post interesting articles and opportunities for engagement, as well as nostalgic memories about Wilmore and faculty birthday celebrations! We do respond to direct messaging as well.

Some of our best online resources were developed and launched just in the past 6 months. On our recently launched website, Asbury for Life, you will find both a prayer section with a prayer request wall, a spiritual formation and soul care blog, and a place for a yearly day of prayer to take place in the digital world. All these resources can be accessed here. We also have another feature exclusively for degree-holding alumni. It is called Thrive U and can be accessed here. You should already have access under your normal Asbury username and password you use for Connect. If you have any issues logging in, please contact our office, and we can assist you. Thrive U is a resource that will allow you to view video content from popular classes here at Asbury, on the off-chance that you were unable to take that particular class or would like to brush up. You can also use this content within the context of your ministry if you like.

We also provide some special services for our alumni as they enter retirement and beyond. When our alumni retire from ministry, they and their immediate household are eligible to apply for the Shepherd’s Fund, which pays out up to $10,000 per year for approved medical expenses to honor them for their service and care for those who have cared for the Church. In addition, we invite back our 50 year graduates every year and honor them as Golden Graduates during commencement weekend. They get a two-day complimentary stay, and we wine and dine them and give them more gifts than they probably want to take on the airplane ride home!

We even continue to support and honor our alumni families when their Asburian in the family passes into glory. Whenever we discover that one of our alumni has passed, that October, we send their first of kin (when available) an honor alumni Bible in honor of their legacy of faithful service to the people of God to celebrate All Saints Day.

If you would ever like to visit Asbury in the future, we always enjoy meeting with alumni over coffee or tea in the hospitality space we have set up in our new office suite, which is located in M102, just as you enter the building where Royal Auditorium is on the Kentucky Campus. We have the tendency to lavish our alumni visitors with gifts that are specifically created for our alumni (read, you cannot get this premium swag anywhere else)! We also offer renewal retreats that are custom made for the retreatant’s specific needs, giving alumni an opportunity to come and be refreshed and renewed for ministry. We are also happy to work with Enrollment Management to provide hospitality and campus tours to any prospective students you may send our way. We would love to show them around and give them a taste of the Asbury experience. We also would like to show them all our Alumni Office has to offer our graduate families, as this is a major consideration when choosing a graduate school.

If you ever need quality applicants for a job position or are interested in more information about official recruiting of Asbury graduates as well as current students, our office can also help place job opportunities in all the appropriate places to ensure our Asbury family can view them and apply. We also work closely with the team that handles official recruiters who wish to visit campus.

As you can see, we have a lot to offer our alumni and love to serve all of you in any way we can. We are continually developing more resources and more tools to support those of you who are out there on the front lines, bringing the whole Bible to the whole world! We would love to keep in close contact with you and follow your journey in vocational ministry. And, as always, if there is ever a way we can serve you, please don’t hesitate to contact us by email, phone, or even snail mail (you wouldn’t believe how much fun we have with mail time when alumni send us greetings). 1. Edward Crandall says:

I appreciate all you are doing and offering to us and for us. We likely will apply to join the Shepherd’s Fund, though hoping not to need it.
    Cordially, in Christ,
