What’s New at Asbury Church Planting?

Published Date: November 4, 2025

The Center for Church Multiplication (CCM) is currently providing funding, coaching and prayer support to a multi-racial group of 27 men and women who are in their first 1-3 years of establishing new churches in urban, suburban and rural contexts in 16 states throughout America. These new grant recipients were carefully selected and come highly recommended by their denominations, colleagues, and church leaders.

For three days in late September 2025, these 2025-2026 grant recipients gathered on Asbury Seminary’s campus to meet one another, connect with their coaches, and learn from each other.

Ten grant recipients presented case studies from their church planting experience that addressed topics relevant to church planting including: nurturing a multiplication mindset, cultivating a diverse (multi-ethnic, multi-racial) church, fostering collaboration, catalyzing a church planting movement, and exploring alternative funding models. Extended time was spent in discussion and prayer. Several grant recipients were accompanied by team members.

One grant recipient wrote, “That was by far one of the best training and formational experiences on my church planting journey.” Learn more about CCM’s multiplication grant program

Global Voices: Principles from Planters

Each month we highlight church multiplication principles gleaned from Global Gatherings of church planters around the world. Here is a principle shared by a church planter in Brazil:

Earnest prayer is the church planting strategy.
When searching for a place to plant a church, one church planting team in Brazil went to a different nearby town every Saturday and prayed in the town center. They prayed in town after town asking God to draw people to himself. They prayed, “God, grant us the privilege of participating in a revival in this town.” Church planting begins with earnest prayer for your city, your neighborhood, and your neighbors. Pray over time. Don’t give up. Keep praying. Pray for a receptive person – a person of peace (a receptive and well-networked person who will invite others to learn about Christ). Keep visiting and praying for towns that don’t have churches. Ask God to lead you to a receptive person and begin church planting in that town.

CCM Resource Recommendation

The global statement on Reactivating the Church as Movement is a statement describing the core affirmations of disciple-making movements and church planting movements. This statement – released last month – was developed by church planting practitioners, missiologists, and researchers from around the world who participate in the Motus Dei Network.

The Reactivating the Church as Movement statement calls the global church to recover the vibrant, Spirit‑empowered character that animated the earliest communities of Jesus’ followers. It reminds us that Christian witness has always flourished when ordinary people share the Good News in everyday settings, form simple gatherings, and equip new leaders who can do the same.

This statement invites mission leaders, pastors, practitioners, and scholars to re‑envision church and mission around practices that are clear, transferable, and rooted in prayerful dependence on God’s initiative. By offering shared language and practical principles, it aims to spark fresh conversations, encourage collaboration across traditions, and help believers cultivate multiplying communities that carry the gospel to every people and place.

Included with the statement is a companion guide that explains why this statement matters, how it was crafted, and who wrote it. The companion guide also includes questions that can be used to discuss the statement in small group settings.
