A Gift of Blessing Exclusively for Retired Asbury Seminary Alumni
Asbury Theological Seminary is Pleased to Announce:
The Asbury Shepherd’s Fund
The Shepherd’s Fund is for great men and women of the faith that have given their lives to serve others. We know that many of you have given to the Body of Christ sacrificially and have not retired with large retirement funds or bank accounts, and have little money to meet the needs that can arise in the latter years. That is where the Shepherd’s Fund can help.
The Shepherd Funds exists to help retired ministers during their time of need, whether it is the minister or their spouse. Retired clergy can apply to receive financial help (up to 10K per year) for expenses that can occur during a health care crisis. We want our retired alumni shepherds and their spouses to focus on healing rather than worrying about bills. This will give our retired alumni and their spouses time to properly recover or deal with that hard situation without the additional financial burden. They can rest assured that the Shepherd’s Fund will be there to help meet the need when hard times hit.
We have made the application process easy whether applying through mail or online. Not only can the minister apply, but a family member or a denominational leader can submit the application for the retired minister or spouse. We will take the application, quickly investigate the need to ensure the best and most proper use of the funds, then pay the hospital or vendor directly so our retired shepherd can focus on what really matters.
We are honored that God has given us the opportunity to be a blessing to the alumni shepherds who have so faithfully served God and all of us.
The Asbury Shepherd’s Fund…being a blessing to those who have given their lives to ministry.

Thank you for this much-needed blessing. We don’t need it now, praise God, but I’m sure there are some who do. God bless, Dorthea (Dottie) and Duwain Dumas, class of 1993.
Such a WONDERFUL BLESSING …
Thank You, LORD !
We do not need this at the present time but realize that many might be suffering even now …
I would write a letter of deep gratitude and would mail it, but I can’t easily find to whom to address this letter. So, I’m leaving my “thank you” remarks here. I finished my course work for my M. Div. degree in December 1993 and graduated from Asbury Seminary with the spring graduating class of 1994. I had received an appointment in The United Methodist Church in the South Indiana Conference two years prior to my graduation from Asbury. I returned to my home conference of East Ohio upon the completion of my M. Div. classwork. Having concluded my ministry in the East Ohio Conference in 2022, I was 79 years of age upon my final retirement. Throughout my ministry, I was normally assigned to smaller churches and, sometimes, to churches that didn’t have enough members to be required to contribute to my denomination’s retirement funds. My retirement funding isn’t much upon which to live, and it runs out in 2029. My wife and I have limited funds upon which to live, and The Shepherd’s Fund has been a tremendous lifeline for us. There are not enough words to THANK all who are connected with administering The Shepherd’s Fund, or The Retired Pastors Benevolence Program, as it’s sometimes called. I want to be certain that my THANK YOU reaches those in this program that have established this fund and who administer it day by day. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Rev. Gary A. Hicks, retired elder, The United Methodist Church
