Help Us Continue Asbury Theological Seminary’s 100-year Legacy!

Published Date: October 2, 2020

In these unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic and all of the difficulties it has brought, the old hymn “Great is thy Faithfulness” has been of great comfort to many. You may not be aware of it, but this hymn has strong ties to Asbury Theological Seminary.

In 1893, a young man named Thomas O. Chisholm was converted under the preaching of Dr. Henry Clay Morrison in a camp meeting in Franklin, Kentucky. Dr. Morrison later invited Chisholm to move to Louisville for a time to be the office editor and business manager of The Pentecostal Herald, the periodical Morrison had launched to spread the orthodox Wesleyan message. Chisholm wrote poetry and the words to many hymns during his lifetime. In 1923 – the same year that Dr. Morrison established Asbury Seminary – Chisholm wrote the words to “Great is thy Faithfulness.”

Asbury Seminary opened in 1923 with three official students and a God-sized vision of “The Whole Bible for the Whole World.” Now, as we approach our 100th anniversary, God has indeed been faithful! Despite everything, this Fall our enrollment is over 1,800 students – another record for us! You are one of our over 11,000 alumni that have gone out “to evangelize and to spread scriptural holiness throughout the world” as our mission statement declares.

You are a part of God’s faithfulness! Thank you for your prayers and your financial support. Each gift helps us to prepare our current students to fulfill the mission that God has given us. With your help, we will celebrate our first 100 years and look forward with anticipation to our next century of service to God’s Kingdom.

P.S. – We have new Asbury Seminary alumni t-shirts! For a suggested donation of $20 or more, we will gladly send you one. We have them in heather green or heather maroon. Be sure to tell us the color and size you’d like! You can donate online here, or as always, you can mail a check to:

One response to “Help Us Continue Asbury Theological Seminary’s 100-year Legacy!”

  1. This inspires Julie and me as we love this great hymn and love Asbury Seminary. Our lives are richer, our faith strong and Christ Church is where she is today because of ATS. We celebrate the record enrollment and pray for a “Double Portion” of God’s grace upon ATS in these next three years! Much love to all the faculty, students, staff and alumni, Charles and Julie Kyker
