Rev. Charles A. Rader passed away Monday, July 30, 2018 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born April 23, 1932 in Richland County to the late Joseph and Leona (Rinehart) Rader. Charles attended Elementary and Junior High school in Ontario, Ohio. In 1950 he graduated from Weller Twp. Union Rural School in Epworth, Ohio. He graduated from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky, in 1954; Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, in 1957; Hamma Divinity School, Ohio in 1958. He pastored churches in the United Methodist Church, West Ohio Conference; including Stockdale, Mutual, Quincy, Springfield, Van Wert, Columbus, Piqua, Sidney, Elmore, and North Hampton. He retired in 1997 from Neal Avenue United Methodist Church and continued to serve as Visitation Pastor at Newark First United Methodist Church from 1999-2009. He served for over twenty years as a chaplain in the Civil Air Patrol having attained the rank of Major. He served as the Jail Chaplain in Clark and Licking Counties for 12 years. He was very mission orientated. He served for 12 years on the Board of Global Missions helping to build a church in Puerto Rico and many buildings at the Red Bird Mission, Kentucky. He volunteered on a variety of other mission projects. He was also very active in various district, county and community organizations. He was a “jack-of-all trades” who could fix about anything. He seemed happiest when visiting people and helping them on their journey of faith. Survivors include his children, Karen Rader of Springfield, OH, David (Rebecca) Rader of Gahanna, OH, Cheryl (Rader) Carter of Piqua, OH, James Brian (Patricia) Rader of Newark, OH; grandchildren Keith (Melissa) Rader, Megan Rader, Joy Rader, Matthew Rader, Emily Rader; brother-in-law, Robert (Nola) Gooding; sisters-in-law Miriam Rader, Sandra Rader; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Virginia Ruth (Gooding) Rader who died February 26, 2017; son-in-law, Wendell Carter; sisters, Annabel (Henry) Miller, Vera (Wilbur) Greenawalt; brothers, Lester (Patricia) Rader, Chester Rader and Harold Rader.
