The Spirit-Filled Life: Come to the Altar Worship Night
What has the Holy Spirit been up to at Asbury Theological Seminary?
The entire Asbury community – professors, students, staff, spouses, children, friends, and alumni – gathered to eat dinner, fellowship, and worship on Friday night, October 19th. Though we had planned to have the event outdoors with a bonfire, the rain brought us inside the Bob and Ellen Stamps Community House. The event beautifully brought the entire Asbury community together to be fed both physically and spiritually.
Worship bands from Asbury’s Chapel Office and Lexington’s Growth Point Church led the community in worship through song. Several members of the Asbury community shared their testimonies of the Holy Spirit’s role in their lives including students Rachel Smith, A. J. Robinson, and Samuel Odubena, professors Dr. Phil Meadows and Dr. Craig Keener as well as President Timothy Tennent.
This event came about because of the “Spirit-Filled Life” focus on the Kentucky campus this year. Dr. Tennent is preaching a sermon series called “The Spirit-Filled Life” in Chapel and many other events are emphasizing this part of Asbury’s mission statement, which states, “Asbury Seminary is a community called to prepare theologically educated, sanctified, Spirit-filled men and women to evangelize and to spread scriptural holiness throughout the world through the love of Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit and to the glory of God the Father.”
Take a look at this clip of one of our current students, A. J. Robinson, rapping his testimony at the event:
