New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation (NSO) is a special time designed to welcome incoming students and their families to Asbury Theological Seminary’s campus and surrounding community and ready hearts and minds for the formational experience of seminary. This is also a unique opportunity to connect with students, staff, and faculty as we seek to celebrate the work God has done in the lives of new students, foster community, and provide key tools and necessary information.

The Office of Student Services strongly recommends that each incoming student attend New Student Orientation at one of Asbury’s geophysical campuses in Kentucky or Florida. Spouses are encouraged to attend, and childcare is provided. Online students are welcome to attend NSO on campus or tune in via our online webinar formats.

New Student Orientations are hosted at the start of each fall and spring semester. Listed below is a brief description of each orientation session as well as upcoming NSO dates.

IMPORTANT! – If you plan on attending our Kentucky campus New Student Orientation – please register by August 20th by emailing us with your full name (along with any guests coming with you) and your T-shirt sizes at

NSO Session Descriptions (Kentucky Campus)

Welcome and Worship: Join us for the very first time as we welcome you and your fellow incoming class for a time of fellowship and worship.
Asbury 101: A fellow student presenter will be sharing all the information you need to know for Asbury Connect as well as simplifying some of the overwhelming technology details. *We suggest bringing a notebook or laptop for this session!
Spouses Meet & Greet: Spouses, join the seminary staff and fellow Asbury family for a special time of fellowship and prayer as you begin your time in a new community!
Chapel: President Timothy Tennent will be delivering an inspiring message to the new student body entitled “Scholars on Fire”.
Business of Being A Student: Learn the “business” of being a seminarian as you watch a set of brief videos filmed by each major department on campus.
The Ethos and You: Join the Director of Student Services in a time to examine how Asbury lives out our core beliefs and values, not only as students but also in preparation for your future ministry.
Campus Fair: Visit department booths, learn about our extracurricular programs, and taste Ale-8-One, the only soft drink invented in Kentucky still in existence.
Campus Tour: Join your TAG Leaders for a student-led tour through Asbury’s campus, introducing you to the campus “hotspots” and key buildings and classrooms.
Dinner at Rose Hill: Bring your family and join President and Mrs. Tennent for a picnic-style dinner and an atmosphere of food, fun, and fellowship.
The Transition Talk: Change can be challenging, but it does have to be something you weigh alone. During this session, we will take time to focus on the “why” to remember and the “who” you need to make sure your time at seminary is a success.
The Global Classroom: Journey with us through our international classrooms as we dive into the virtual learning experience of other countries!
Lunch with Faculty and Administration: Enjoy lunch and a time to connect with Asbury’s faculty on a personal level beyond the classroom.
