Asbury Theological Seminary is delighted to announce the launch of a new initiative, known as Asbury Seminary Global. This initiative creatively combines online and short, targeted, residential experiences at convenient, church-based locations into a new hybrid educational platform. The Seminary has enjoyed six years of record-breaking Fall enrollment and now currently serves more students than at any other time in its nearly 100-year history.

“We are committed to giving our future students the flexibility of online education along with powerful residential experiences in an increasing number of sites which make education more accessible to men and women who otherwise would not be able to pursue theological education,” Dr. Timothy C. Tennent, President of Asbury Seminary, said.

With these blessings come new opportunities for the Seminary to extend its legacy of training and equipping students who have been underserved in theological education. In order to accomplish this new vision, the Seminary has been experimenting with hybrid education for several years and has already launched two successful sites in Memphis and Tulsa. The Seminary’s next step is to move from its current “brick and mortar” site in Orlando to multiple new sites in Florida, the U.S. and around the world.

“By combining dynamic online delivery with intensive face-to-face sessions, hybrid education has proven to be one of the most innovative strategies for extending theological education into new contexts,” Dr. Brian Russell, Dean and Associate Provost of the Florida Dunnam Campus, said. “We are excited by the possibilities and prospects of Asbury Seminary Global for expanding the Seminary’s mission in Florida and beyond.”

“Asbury Seminary Global expands the opportunities to more effectively engage students where God has called them,” Dr. Steve Gober, Associate Vice President of the Florida Dunnam Campus, said. “By going to students through the strategic multiplication of regional sites and online course delivery, we embrace exciting new opportunities for contextual learning and deep formation fulfilling Asbury Seminary’s mission.”

Asbury Seminary has had a single site in the Orlando area for 22 years. The main campus remains in Wilmore, Ky. The transition to Asbury Seminary Global is in keeping with the Seminary’s 2023 Strategic Plan that marks the Seminary’s 100th anniversary celebration.

Update: Since the original publication of this release, Asbury Seminary launched the Colorado Springs Extension Site in July 2020 as part of Asbury Seminary Global.
