Asbury Seminary student Brooke Hasl was recently awarded the Kentucky Counseling Association (KCA) summer scholarship for 2021. Recipients of this scholarship receive a tuition waiver from their college or university for one summer class. In addition, students receive a $200 stipend from KCA for books, materials, expenses, and a complimentary year of membership in KCA. Criteria for selecting the awardees includes a commitment to professional counseling and a commitment to serving in Kentucky and participation in the Kentucky Counseling Association.

“I am enormously grateful to have received this scholarship, both to KCA for the opportunity, and to our incredible faculty who have supported me,” Hasl said. “This award allows me to take an additional class this summer, enabling me to progress towards my goal of serving Kentucky’s children and adolescents through the counseling profession.”

Hasl is pursuing a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling degree from Asbury Seminary and expects to graduate in 2023. This summer she plans to take “Counseling Children: Advanced Skills in Professional Practice.”

“The faculty in the Department of Counseling and Pastoral Care take great delight to see the Kentucky Counseling Association recognize Brooke Hasl’s commitment to professional counseling through KCA’s Summer Scholarship program,” Dr. Virginia Todd Holeman, Professor of Counseling, said. “We see her commitment in our classes every week and now through the collaboration between Asbury Seminary and KCA, Brooke can continue to refine her skills this summer and grow her professional identity.”

KCA is the state branch of the American Counseling Association and is an organization of counseling professionals who work in educational, health care, residential, private practice, community agency, government, business and industry settings.
